Deifinitely, make your own clothing. That is what I do. If you aren't into sewing there are many non sew or little sew projects out there you can do. Make tops from bandanas, pillow cases, jeans. You can learn to embroider, do simple stitching by hand. THere are so many possiblities out there. Just try anything and you will find what suits you best!
i agree make your own. the only way to be unique... that and wear only clothes you like... i mean no one else can have EXACTLY the same taste as you.
I know how you feel, Freed. A few months ago I nearly made it my mission to invent a new look. I was so sick of seeing the same five people everywhere I went and I just wanted to stir things up by looking completely different. Even the so-called "unique" people had the same basic style. I kinda forgot about the whole thing though and continued to dress how I dress. I don't intentionally follow trends, I've always just worn what feels right on me. Besides, clothes that fit are somehow really hard to find. I'm too busy lately to put effort into finding a more creative style, but I'm sure the urge will come about again soon. Just have fun with your clothes. If you don't know how to sew, I suggest fabric paints--awesome and virtually fool-proof. Draw your own designs on plain tee-shirts. NO ONE can go out and buy something you made yourself.
Ah, the joys of simple white t-shirts. Buy a bunch and iron on cool designs or tye dye them... write stuff on them... same with jeans, i write on mine/put patches on them all the time. thrift stores are great too... for some reason they have a lot of "XYZ FAMILY REUNION" t-shirts there, i have a hot pink one from the "o'donell family reunion"... yeah.
I paint / patch my own clothing.... however I'm not that great of a seamstress (in fact I'm awful!) so what you do is buy clothes and wear them in a different way (like the person who suggested a bandana as a shirt... good idea!) I won't really tell you any of mine, because it's fun to just come up with your own. Really, next time you go shopping, find something you like. Maybe you like the color, pattern, texture etc... then think.. "Is there another way I could wear this?" Many times there is. Scarves are the easiest things to get creative with, obviously, because the simple shape can go anywhere. Once you get into it, start experimenting with things! It's loads of fun! I've found when I want messages or words on my clothes my simple-shape sewing skills just won't cut it. So, sharpies are great on a pair of old blue-jeans for writing stuff. I use pen to experiment with messages because pen will wash out eventually. If I like the design, I'll sharpie it! It's fun... and after quite a few washes the marker gently fades so pretty! Basically have fun. You'd be surprised... If their aren't really hip stores near you (like me, there's the mall and Wal-Mart) you may have to hunt the good thirt stores, independant stores down but you can find some awesome blossom clothes in places you wouldn't expect. Just have fun. Make your own. Also, my favorite ear-rongs (sorry I had to brag ) were cheap, simple hoops given to me by a friend for X-mas (we're both poor...lol) . One day, in a crazy fit, I broke this pretty flower leia (okay i cant spell but you know the hawiian flower necklaces) and it came apart. Well... those fabric flowers had holes in the center about the same size as my hoops. Just add two missmatched broken chains... one was a gift with dangling beads, i cherish it... the other was a broken chain that was thrown at me when my school decided I was a freak, from which I dangled a simple, plastic, pink ring from a 25 cent machine and fixed the chain by connecting the broken links with another small hoop that had lost its match... Well... i tried to create the picture there it's hard to imagine without seeing how it works together... but these are my proudest works fashion wise. Wait... take that back..... See.... making your own stuff is really fun! I mean look how much i blab about my own creations... I'm sure you'll come up with a million great pieces. It's fun. and cheap... Happy creating (sorry for the length!) ~~~~~~peace~~~~~~~~

I don't really have any new suggestions (just the same as the others- making/reconstructing stuff), but I think its awesome that you're trying to find your own unique look at such a young age. When I was your age, I was still kind of going along with whatever everyone else was wearing (I went to very preppy private schools my whole life), but even then I always had my own twist to the popular styles at the time. But anyways, not to ramble, but I think thats great. Mmm...lemme dig up the link to a good page with directions to reconstructing the stuff you already have...
thrift stores are awesome! they are my favorite! i got a little kids shirt that fits pretty good and has cute little koalas on it. i like getting skirts at thrift stores, they have the best skirts!
