Most zoo animals live much longer than they typically would in the wild. In the zoo they are protected from natural enemies, including poachers. They are guaranteed unlimited clean water, adequate food every day, and regular visits from the vet. Animals don't think about freedom in the same way that humans do. They just care about basic things. In a zoo built and maintained to modern standards, I think the animals are very content. It is the humans that look at the fences and see a problem.
I agree zoos are on the way out, but game preserves will always play a role in the preservation of endangered species until all non-domesticated animals become extinct Hotwater
..then anyone with a fish in a tank in their house..pet birds to, since they are in a cage..be free little birdy, be free..fly, fly away from us humans
They don't belong there. I'll make exceptions for endangered species and injured animals found in the wild, but majority case, it's just a zoo.
When someone makes an unpopular point, they are usually saying something UNDERNEATH their public statement. I think it's important that we all listen carefully to what she's actually saying. What she's saying is "I am a PETA-supporting complete nutjob without a shred of sense or credibility."
not really. perhaps she saw a really bad zoo and thinks all zoo's are like that? The answer is of course no, i've been a vegetarian for 5 yrs, and i am one for saving animals at all costs but i can honestly say that zoos are ok! they preserve species that sometimes would other wise perish in the actual wild. I've seen a shitty zoo, but that was a long time ago. idk who said it but yeah if zoos were really just awful places, people would know, and so much money wouldn't be funded and given to them to keep running.
Man, shut the fuck up. You're a little 46 year old nerd taking pot shots at a guy half your age on the internet, it's just a little bit pathetic, and a lot more sad, get a life, seriously, get one.
As long as the zoos are taking in only animals that need our help (hurt or habitat destruction) and the ultimate goal is to rehabilitate as many as possible and send them back to natural habitats (if possible), then I'm okay with them. Buying animals that were doing fine just so that they can have a side show, that's wrong. I've seen zoos that were almost like Jurrasic Park with all that room. But I've also seen zoos that the animals were in such small cages that they could barely pace three feet back and forth. Those are just wrong. The sad thing is that we may think that we are the solution to all of natures problems, but we were the cause to most of them in the beginning. If we could just get out of everybodies way there would be no need for preserves and zoos and mating programs.
Unfortunately, that would involve exterminating a high percentage of the earth's human population, demolishing millions of man-made structures, and finding a way to quickly reverse global warming. It's not going to happen. I'm all for phasing out "cage zoos" though. The government should give these older operations a deadline for upgrading their habitat spaces to current standards, or require them to transfer their animals elsewhere.
I know how to reverse global warming. And all we need are a lot of trees, train track, and the sun. Oh yeah, and solar panels. Just make a track round the middle of the earth, put a train full of trees on and let it go. It can follow the sun so it's constantly getting rid of CO2. I just feel sorry for the trees.
I think that there are many replies in here that repeat themselves...so...I think - scractch that - I know that there was one reply who put it best... Lemme look back a minute - I don't really recall...no...mmm...yeah!!! My reply was great. You should all read my reply - then go to another thread.
To build the train track would counter any gains. I think she is mad not a genius. A train track around the globe !!!! :smilielol5:
Possible? Definitely. You would say that, eastenders watching crybaby! Many countries have train tracks already across them so it’s just a case of picking the route carefully. These are two examples. The orange one would get more sun and wouldn’t have to pass through Russia but the red one would probably cost less. The biggest obstacle is getting the train over water and people's support. We could even have multiple trains at once. But just think, the train could be solar paneled and that would mean we'd be able to decrease CO2 24/7. If we just kept ourselves carbon Neutral (heh) it'd slowly decrease global warming. I know, I rock.
Yes, But they are not all interlinked - even within the same country. Good luck getting all the countries to allow border crossing on such a consistent scale. How much do you think it would cost? How many carriages would you need to make it viable? How many trees would you need to make it viable? I'd say that is fair to say. The oceans are too deep. People are not going to pay for it out of any taxes. Good look finding private money. Solar powered train? Did you get much sleep last night?
Well I haven't worked out the kinks yet, ya know. The idea is still in the early stages of development. Down with the negativity dude... And I don't know all the numbers because it's just an idea yet. More importantly; why must you crush all my dreams?!! :toetap05: There's a cash prize for working out how to solve global warming. Could've been rich.
