Anyone quit? How did you do it without switching to another substance?
I am having such a hard time not smoking, but really want to quit for mental health, financial reasons and so I can become more motivated to run and do yoga.
Please give me pointers. I really want advice and will not get offended.

    1) don't buy weed. don't hang with people who have weed if you can't say no
    2) run and do yoga when you want to smoke
    3) always keep in mind your reasons for quitting so that you can't talk yourself out of it or reconcile your beliefs.

Yes, I have quit! I smoked a lot up until that point. My reasons were for the mental health as I started to become very anti-social while high...

There is really no secret formula to do it. All it takes is honesty. You really have to WANT to quit.

IMO weed wasn't the hard thing to quit. It was giving smoking cigarettes. That was a real bitch.

Good luck...and it's not hard. Weed is all mental.

I quit smoking cigs and got a nasty xanax habit under control. That is part of the reason I am so frustrated that I am having such a hard time quitting.
The thing is, something horrible happened to me and I was put on a lot of meds to cope with it. Now I think I am over medicated and want to see a psychiatrist to get off of them, but can't give accurate reports of how I feel with med changes if I am smoking weed.
Do you think I should just book an appoitment with a psychiatrist and fess up that I am having a hard time not smoking weed?

That would be a definite YES. Your doctor would need to know if your smoking weed because that can effect the medication/s you are on. It could render it ineffective or worse...how is that doing you any good if that is the case?

    It can't hurt to inform.

    IMO.

you are so right. I am going to find a psychiatrist tommorow and make an appoitment and be honest. I mean I have a perscription for weed, so I can't get in trouble for it.
The only reason I think a psychiatrist would tell is because my boss is a psyc. and I work with kids. I am a bit worried about that. But, since I have a script, it should be okay even if he does break confidentiality.

Do you take any psychotrophic meds? If that is too personal of a question, I apologize.

For me, I think a lot clearer...I don't get a mental fog so to speak. I have a healthier social life. I'm physically more healthy than I was sitting around smoking pot inside the house. I exersize more and eat better.

It was a domino effect. First I quit weed. Then cigarettes. Then naturally started to drink less (not that I was an alcoholic). Next thing I know I'm experiencing life on a higher ground than I was smoking pot...weird.

This was my experience. Your's will be different.

    That's inspiring, thanks.
How did you incorperate exercise back into your life afterwards?
I used to be so fit before I became a regular smoker. I ran half-marathons and always felt so proud of myself. I want to be that person again.

It was pure hell when hubby quit.
...but that is also WHY he quit- he realized he was THAT addicted to it.
He had to separate himself from a lot of people for awhile, avoid access to it.
He had lots of trouble sleeping without it for a long time.

The BIG thing for ME though, was he had to find another outlet- another release. Watching him quit was like watching a lion in a small cage. Cagey, very very...and honestly, HARD to deal with from my perspective.
He'd have to go out and leave the house. Even if it was just a run, a park trip, shopping. home was the hardest part for him, and it was awhile before that came easier :(

I am just so afraid I am going to turn to over using my xanax perscription again as a subsitute. I know I need to find a healthy outlet instead.
Today was pathetic. I went through all of my jars and bags until I found enough to put a bowl together. It made me feel kinda like crap about myself.

I didn't exercise until I quit the cigarette smoking. I always thought it was stupid to do cardiovascular exercises while i smoked at the same time. Kind defeated the purpose.

But once I did I just went to the gym at my apartment center and slowly worked up a routine. At first I did the elliptical machine...running out doors or the treadmill was too much for me and my lard-ass. But soon enough I went out side and now I jog.

I'm no superman. I only do 1.5 miles at a time...but I feel GREAT from doing this. Like today for example. After I finished I enjoyed my natural high that I got from it but I was very fucking tired.

Do what you body can handle and enjoy it.

Take your sim card out of your phone and throw it away.
Don't allow anybody with weed into your home.
Don't leave your home other than to work for about 6 months.

If after all that, you can't say 'no' the first time it's available, you actually don't want to quit.

I did this to end a 2 year coke habit. It worked.

My fiance quit in December because he was going to need to be drug tested and then he just kept off it. He has since smoked three or four times.

Just go off cold turkey. You don't NEED it and you don't need the xanax either. Just give it some time afterward. I think that you can do this Lindsey. You just need the support. I mean when John quit I did too. Like someone else said, don't hang with the smokers anymore and when you get tempted to smoke run or do yoga. Maybe talk to a doc but not the one you work with.
