i really like this band every song i heard from them im into... i like both there early sound and when they started getting rather orchestral its all good and everything but i do think a good amount of spontanaeity i think thats how you spell it.. left after david left the group and john took over... not that john didnt do a good job the music was still unique and stuff but i just think david brought alot more creativety to the band just for being david... nevertheless im still really into the band...

voice reminds me of modest mouse. yea? the opus 40 song reminds me of modest mouse/the beatles. which is a very weird mix. lol. they're an interesting band. i can see why you like them so much. :)

you should check out their earlier material like Yourself Is Steam and Boces... the more rewarding albums of the band when they were more raw and was more left feild.

I loved this band circa Deserter's Songs and All Is Dream... then, they took a fantastic nosedive into bland, boring pop mediocrity. It's actually amazing just how bad The Secret Migration was, and that a band who released something as amazing as DS and AID was actually capable of producing it. Maybe it's the production? I couldn't even liste to the whole thing, because it was painful. It's just really hard for me to get my head around it.

The early stuff has some moments but it's hard for me to get into all the noise and such. See You On the Other Side strikes me as kind of awkward-- it's not so noisy or weird, but at the same time it's just not as interesting.

Deserter's Songs is still amazing. I can put it on today and it transcends even those memories that want to associate it only with what was going on with me in 1998. 'Holes' is one of the best album openers ever... those drums kick in and I'm hooked for the rest of the album. All Is Dream is just as good, but a little harder edged, still spacey... 'Spiders and Flies' is a brilliant track. If you haven't heard either of these albums, do what you can to make sure you do so, very soon!
