I just got an awesome coffee table on Craigslist for free. I'm picking it up tomorrow. It needs a little revamping, but its perfect for my living room. The guy took the ad off craigslist so I can't get the picture, but it looks like this:

I also got an old fashioned 1800's vanity last week similar to this:

What have you gotten for free lately? I love free stuff...mostly everything in my house was given to me except my awesome washer and dryer which cost me a small fortune. But other than that, I rarely ever spend money on furniture.

    yes it is!

I got a sturdy computer desk, my current coffee table, an awesome cabinet/countertop thing (meant for dining rooms and expensive cutlery storage), a cedar chest, my bedroom set, and my tv stand all for free.

I only bought my appliances and couches. Absolutely insane!

Not to mention, I haven't bought clothes in years because I got all my clothes for free from my mom, friends, relatives, etc.

It feels so good to be able to save money on things I need or like for my house.

Dumpsters around my town on any given day could furnish a mid-sized house with everything from TV's to dining tables to chairs to couches.

And me, without a place of my own....

And thrift store clothes are awesome. Going back by today and picking me up a made in USA jacket and slacks I saw last time. And a paisley shirt. I missed the 40's sewing machine though, didn't have money that day..... Oh well. Last time I blew 35 dollars (ish) on a direct drive record player, a few records, a surround sound system, and the parts to connect this all to my other system as a preamp. Fuck, I think I'm going now. Most exciting place there is to shop.

Roo, I love thrift stores, too. I've gotten some awesome things there dirt cheap.

The last time I went, I came out with 5 vinyl records (not to listen to, but to use for a project I was working on), over 10 books, an awesome jewelry box, and a light table to put near my front door all for $25. One of the thrift stores nearby is in an old mill building and is 3 floors filled with stuff! One floor is clothes, another is furniture, and another is odds and ends. I could get lost in there for days!

We also have a flea market every weekend in another old mill building. I've landed some awesome things there, too, including a giant armoire, a nice old-fashioned desk, and a huge cabinet/closet thing for my husband's computer towers and stuff.

Why shop in a regular store when you can get everything you need at places like thrift stores, craigslist, or flea markets?

Got a free antique dresser that was left behind from someone that was renting a friends basement. Just re-finished it last week and its now in my front entrance to store hats/mitts. Got a dinning room table from thrift store for 15.00 that needed sanding and re-finishing. Just finished that one too.

    A dining room table?! Wow!

My family has plenty of dressers to get rid of...thank God I get first dibs on them this weekend :D

I was looking at a dining room table at the flea market a few weeks ago. It would have been perfect except to redo the top of it. The hard part was, it was just a little too big for my kitchen :( Maybe next time

I don't actually know what its made out of which is so unlike me  I usually get the specs on everything before I decide if I want it or not. Probably particle board or something. hahaha
