I am finished with this environmental policy paper I've been working on for two days, and let me tell you what, it's been one of the most eye opening experiences I've had in awhile...OK...AT LEAST in the last week.

Background: my paper is titled: "The Politics of the Deforestation of Old Growth Forests"...self explanatory, right? (if not...mail me and I'll educate you)

There are so many connections within agencies that oversee National forests to the timber industry, it's scary and makes me feel a little hopeless and sad. All these officials are allowing logging companies to go in and cutting these redwoods, sequoias, and ancient cedars (which, by the way, there are only 5% of these areas left in the US), WILLINGLY in our National Forests. Does anyone see a problem with that besides me? Meanwhile, the government's logging methods (which are supposed to be used to clear fire fuel out...i.e. old brush and smaller trees...newsflash, they aren't just cutting those) are costing taxpayers MILLIONS of dollars because they aren't getting a profit...

    *UGH*

    Disheartening...

This is nothing new. Lobbyists are the root of all evil in the U.S. ...

Every major corporation in the U.S. has them to target individual sectors of the country that pertain to their business. The lobbyists then start handjobbing the politicians for those districts, and presto, the folks you voted for are now sucking corporate cock ala Cunningham

It never ends. Absolute power does corrupt absolutely...

Don't even get me started on why we have so many fucking fast food restaurants and no bio-diesel program in place...or why New Jersey property taxes are so high because every district needs millions plus in salaries for un-needed administration, or why California emission standards aren't 'standard' throughout the U.S., or why there was no National Guard to help the New Orleans folks, or why a couple years back the stormed people in Florida got free generators after hurricanes hit...right before the election, or why folks still pay for cable when you can buy a panset box & dish and get free TV...or why am I stuck in traffic everyday and I look in the other cars and there's only 1 person in each of them, why we're spending the cash to drill in Alaska instead of perfecting the Hydrogen economy, why houses are still being built from wood instead of recycling all of the steel in the scrapyards and plastic bottles in the trash to make truckloads of sturdy bio-lumber(it ain't that much more expensive), why are all the fish dead or inedible in my lakes because of fertilizer(is cowshit useless instead of phosphorus based poison), why can't I drink the water out of my well without filtering it, whats that weird bump under my armpit?

The reason I'm spouting all this is because so many folks forget that trees are here for a reason....and so many get so busy with shit thats going on that they don't do anything until its too late.

Write a fucking letter to 'your' representatives...raise some hell...tell them that the Bush "save the forests by cutting them down to prevent forest fires" crap, is exactly that...crap. If a forest fire is raging, a quarter mile gap is not going to stop it. Theres a thing called wind that carries embers, and then the next tract burns to the ground...I'd rather have it burn, then cut down and sold...

    This shit runs deep.

I watched as Ronnie Raygun, the corporate mouthpiece, became a Japanese lobbyist, the day he left office. Same situation with Bush Sr. We sell raw logs to Japan at a loss. The taxpayer pays to build the roads so that private companies can cut the last of the old-growth forests. The Japanese want the uncut logs, so very few jobs are actually involved here. Same old bullshit, done by the same family of sell outs. Grandstanding, propaganda, and cronyism. The Japanese, The House of Saud, whoever, the same game!
At one point, it was all about the trade imbalance. We bought Japanese cars, radios, etc., and they bought very little from us. They relented to buying whole trees. After all, the Japanese thirst for exotic wood had already wiped out huge portions of the pacific rim biosphere. The trade numbers looked better at the taxpayer's expense, and too few made a big deal out of the fact that it was just smoke and mirrors. Just one of numerous such examples of unethical, usually illegal, dishonest moves by the leadership of this “protector of democracy”.

Perhaps if we can help wake up enough people, we might be able to take back this land before the dream of an elected government is gone forever.
Vote by absentee ballot rather than electronic ballot!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell everyone you know. Maybe, the old guard has finally gone too far and babylon can awaken. From environmental issues, to economics, to war, we all have reasons to work toward an alternative future!

Otherwise, dig a hole and let the storm pass. Mother is bigger, wiser, and more enduring than those that would exploit her.

Confirmed, proud hugger of trees and apprentice Lorax
