    I hear my mother crying

    This is strange

I have never heard her crying

Her cry sounds so sweet to my ears

    She does not speak

She does not have to say anything

    I understand her without words

    But I say to her

    Mammy

Look at the fields and the forests

    The huge mountains

    The enormous rivers

    The high sky

    The big oceans

Hear how they are rejoicing toward you

    They see you now

    They speak to you

    You are in them

    They are in you

Now I see that my mother is smiling

    Smiling and crying

And her cry is so sweet

    So wonderful

    So pleasing to the ears

It is emanated from the trees, the fields

    From the huge mountains

From the enormous rivers which go to the sea

The sea of longing which is never full
