I have a cold. It just came on today

I'm just kind of zoning out and surfing the forums, much like I usually do, only with a much lower level of cognitive functioning and motivation

I was going to post this in random thoughts, firstly because I just didn't think of posting it here, and secondly because I was just too damn lazy to find the whiners forum

shrewdly, I realized that the chances of someone bitching me out for whining, while small, were infinitely higher if I posted in random thoughts than here.

here, if someone complains, I have an easy defence: "STFU, this is the Whiners Forum, I'm supposed to whine here!"

Yeah, the whiners forum is like a fortress, from which, even in my weakened state, I can repel a besieging army.

I've run out of kleenex and am now using a new roll of toilet paper.

The only cold medicine that I have expired in 2011, but it will have to do for now

if there is a bright side, I don't think I've needed cold medicine since at least 2011 :sunny:

Sorry to hear about your cold :( Got any orange juice? Vitamin C dude, stuff works magic for me. When I feel an illness coming on I take vitamin C supplements and drink lots and lots of oj and that does trick for me.

thank you for your post, vivalife :sunny:

according to traditional chinese medical theory, some colds have a "cold" origin, some have a "hot" origin

the "hot" colds will respond well to vitamin c, but not the "cold" colds.

    I think I've got a "cold" cold.

if you have thin, clear mucous, you've probably got a "cold" cold

my colds start with the thin clear mucous, then go to the thick yellow, then back to the thin clear. then i just have a lot of boogers for a week or two after i get over it.

vitamin c is the best solution i've come across, although time is really the only cure for a cold. also alcohol seems to cure it while i'm under the effects of the alcohol, but then it's even worse the next day. so that's really only a solution if you have a one-time commitment during the cold, and it's the kind of commitment that you can do with a buzz.

Yeah it's still going around here. I came down with it on xmas night. Bunches of people around me had it for about a week before. I named it "The Creeping Christmas Crud".

mostly staying away from cold and raw foods, soy products, citrus

at the very intial stage, you're supposed to be able to sweat the cold out. doesn't usually feel right to me though, and I haven't tried it

the joke is, the cure for a cold is to get into bed and drink a bottle of whiskey. by the time you've finished, you still have a cold, but you just don't give a damn at that point

hope you're better now. there's never a good time to have it, but that sounds like bad timing

I'm much better now. Just a little residual left, then I'm done!

Feel better. Eat lots of fresh garlic and have a hot toddy if you like them.

Be well and remember to take care of yourself. Mom always gave us chicken soup. I have not had a cold in years but I smoke so there probably is nothing in there for any germs to get a foothold.

I am not really sure but part of my theory is to not stress about all the germs out there. We need to be exposed to germs to improve our immune systems. For years I have felt that this relatively new theory of keeping the kids constantly cleaned and all the surfaces sanitized is what is causing lots of the kids to have low immune systems and they catch anything that comes down the pike. I do wash my hands etc. but I do not necessarily always use soap and probably never wash them for two minutes unless I got into something particularly nasty. I know some people are truly allergic to some things. I am allergic to some things as well but was never tested to see what I am allergic to.

When we were kids we played in the dirt. Our home was clean but not sanitized daily. We were exposed to all kinds of things and I think it made us stronger. Our bodies need to be exposed to germs to learn how to fight them off. I have never had the flu either.

On the other hand, as I said above, I am a long time smoker (cigarettes) and it is possible that if I breathe in germs that they just can't get a foothold to make me sick. I would not recommend taking up smoking though, this is just the other part of my "theory".

Me and my two kids are sick. This is horrible. My head hurts, my whole body hurts, congested, itchy eyes, sore throat, runny nose.. I want to crawl into a cave with a bunch of blankets and sleep, sleep, sleep away...I can't even remember when I've ever felt this sick.

    ps:I hate everything.

I'll join in on this whinge.

Got my cold on Sunday. I knew as soon as work got started again that I'd land a freakn' cold. I've barely slept in days.

But I gots me some NyQuil now and I plan to do a bulb of roasted garlic later on.
Mmmm...a cold is such a great excuse to eat a full bulb of roasted garlic. I'm looking so forward to that.
