I went to a show tonight. It was a band I really really really like, and I brought along two of my friends, one of which happens to have just turned 16. She called her mom between acts, and when her mom found out she wasn't in the city we live in (we were like 30 minutes away from her house), she freaked out and said that she had to come home. She was pretty dead set on doing exactly what her mom wanted her to do, so I only got to see like 4 songs by the band I was there for. $12 for 4 songs. And I was really into it. I pretty much begged her to stay, but no. I hate overprotective parents and their stupid bullshit. :(

I didn't grow up in an overprotective parental household, but work with children who DO. It's ridiculous...if they have the slightest sniffle, they don't allow their children to get in the water, if they have a cut on their finger they automatically blame me and get upset....it's ridiculous.

I grew up in a household where if you were sick or had a cut or fell of your bike, you weren't babied, you were told to suck it up.

I don't understand how parents are so overprotective these days.

Quit hanging out with friends that don't fit your target demographic then.

Eh, at least the kid has loving parents.

Probably won't get to see a lot of life till college though. :D

I don't have a "target demographic." I don't care that she's 15, I care that her mom is ridiculous and she puts up with that bullshit.

That's the thing though, I hang out with her all the time and we do whatever we want. She just lies to her mom all the time about where she is, only she got caught this time. I don't blame her for lying to her mom all the time though. I would too if my mom didn't let me do anything fun.

Yeah, my parents didn't baby us either. Parents think they're protecting they're children when they're actually sheltering from the world. Shit happens, deal with it.

my parents are over protective, but they also trust me.
I was at a concert in the city a few months ago, my mom freaked out before i actually went, but i explained the details, told her where i was gona be, said you need to let me liiiive. and it was all good.

if the kid actually talked it out with her mom instead of prob screaming and crying about it or lying, it probably wouldve went better.

better then parents who dont give a shit.

mine were totally overprotective a couple of years back. its really hard to deal with, but really the parents are only doing it because they care.

I think it's a different kind of overprotectiveness here... With sickness and cutting and felling, my parents behaved the same as yours, but when I come home later than expected due to the bus coming late, for instance, they worry a lot...

So shouldn't you all just suck it up about over-protective parents?

    I agree
The girl should get some rebellion in her, its not unnatural for parents to be over-protective.

How is this being overprotective? And what was she supposed to do, tell her mom to "eat a a dick, I'm staying" I thought maybe this would be more indepth of being really overprotective, but this isn't...

I think it would be a lot better if kids lived in foster care because their parents were too busy drinking to buy groceries...

I have a close relationship with my kids, who are not too embarrassed to hug me in front of their friends. As a former latch-key kid, I had hardly any relationship with my parents, since I only saw them for an hour or so a day...
Sounds like she has a good relationship going.
