And as such, I decided to listen to a couple of bands that are more well known from around my area. We in Ottawa can lay claim to fame or not with some of these..... Paul Anka Dave Brockie (GWAR) Jeremy Cara (Arcade Fire) Alanis Morissette Richard Parry (Arcade Fire) Jeff Waters (Annihilator)
I am pretty sure that both the Breeders and Pixies hail from Boston, Mass. Kim and Kelly Deal were born in Dayton, though. That would be like saying that Sonic Youth hailed out of Rochester because Kim Gordon was born here.
Arcade Fire.... for some reason I feel ashamed to say I really like their music a lot. Something about the band just rubs me the wrong way, though. They all seem a bit douchey in interviews, and their politics make me want to puke. Still, one of the best semi-mainstream "indie" bands around today.
There are a lot of artists who I personally do not like their politics or know that I would not care to spend time with that I still enjoy their craft. Sometimes the music is enough and just leave the rest where it should be.
edit- I think I was talking out my ass, let me do my research and I'll get back with you. lol edit #2- Danny Elfman is from Amarillo. Pretty much every other famous musician from Amarillo is a country singer. But they have a pretty damn decent metal scene. It's all pretty local, though.
without the deal sisters you have nothing.. kim gordon is half the influence to sonic youth as the deal sisters are to the breeders
I wrote Arcade Fire once to ask them if they'd be interested in playing for a political cause for the Council of Canadians, but they never even bothered to reply. Was kindda douchey. They interview poorly sometimes, it's true. But Régine always does well in interviews.
I think the majority of the indy crowd tends to be douchey.. especially the mainstream indies like arcade fire, and GBV
