Folks, There are an inordinate number of Jehovah's Witnesses in my neighborhood, to the point that on particular evenings one street in my neighborhood is nearly impassable from the gatherings. I knew it would only be a matter of time until I got a visit, considering I've only recently moved in. Well, it was this morning. I got caught off guard and didn't realize that this woman was a JW until she'd already opened her Bible and started witnessing me. I'm Christian, and I really have no desire to convert these people, argue with them or even "prove" anything to them. I just don't want them to come back to my house. Any ideas how to get them to skip me? (Looks like cleaning out my garage so I can hide the car is now high priority!) Thanks for any ideas you have, Gina
Well, a friend of mine did it by answering the door naked with a shotgun, and claiming to be 'all stocked up on jesus here'... That might work for you.
Do forgive my ignorance, but aren't Jehovah's witnesses christians too? If not, can you please explain the differences?
I'm a Christian who doesn't affiliate with any particular denomination, and I think that JW is a denomination I have no desire to know any more about.
Even though you don't want to argue with them, I've found that refuting their screwy theology is the best way to scare them off. Better yet, buy some Christian booklets that debunk their claims and offer to trade literature with them. Then tell them not to come back until they've read through it. They almost certainly won't return, because their cultic leadership forbids them to read so called "apostate" literature! Their not even supposed to read any Bible translations besides their own skewed version. No. Jehova's Witnesses deny the deity of Christ and teach that he was an incarnation of Michael the archangel. Their unbiblical Christology is virtually identical to the heresy of Arianism that was thoroughly rebutted by Augustine and the Council of Nicea. They've also contrived some very bizarre eschatology that they've had to keep revising over the years.
The truth is that you have a right to privacy in your own home... it may be different if you were walking down the street, but to be harrassed in your own home, through havgin to constantly open your door to unwanted visitors is exceptionally unacceptable in my opinion... if they come back, id threaten to call the police, maybe a bit drastic, but in todays culture, your home is nearly the only place you can claim privacy, and i for one will hold onto that above all else!!
what the fuck?! are you mental? do you call the cops on people knocking on doors fundraising? yeah you have the right to privacy. you never have to open the door, its not like they come in anyway.
atropine why the over dramatised reaction? what would you do if i said 'yes i am mental actually, i take pills to help stabilise my paranoia...' funny? no i didnt think so either! What I am saying is if you get a repeat visitor coming to your house, pestering you then you have a right to have them ejected from your property if they will not listen to reason. and by property i dont just mean inside your house.. if you own or rent a house and you have a frong garden or path to your front door, then that too is your property. Just cos its outside doesnt mean it doesnt count! The problem with religion sometimes is that when people say no to the 'evangelist' then it is often percieved as a challenge or a test of their persistence from god. you get me? so they will come back believing they are ultimately working for the common good, ignoring the individuals right to actually say no. Unlike the fundraiser who will usually move on, and even if you do get a repeat visitor they are unlikely to be the same person representing the same charity. Even charities have integrity. See I can respond to your question, however what i do resent is the ignorance implied through the way you phrased it. The most of the arguments on here are started by ignorant people posting over personal ignorant replies to other peoples posts.
some folks in our neighborhood post a little sign "JW not welcome here" right by their doorbell or doorknocker... i guess it works (heh, but maybe not for mormons, sheesh...) (eschatology? hey, man, the world as we know it DID end in 1914... there were several american religious groups with roots in the millerite movement... in 1848 (?) jesus was coming back to judge the world & end history... and thousands & thousands of folks divested themselves of their worldly posessions & went up on top of hills & mountains to await their savior's immanent arrival... & i guess they were, well, disappointed when judgement day didn't arrive on schedule... the JWs never gave up with this ummmm "end of the world" dealio; they did sorta reset the prophesied date a few times, though...) ymmv...
I'm thinking of a sign on the door that says "Disfellowshipped Apostate". And not just any sign, like a really cute artsy kind of sign with designs and decorations!!! Think it would work? g.
Tell them that if they go to your church then you'll go to theirs. They don't want to ever hear that. They can only go to their Hall. Or just kill them with kindness. They don't like that either. I think that religion isn't Christian, but more of a cult. How can they say they are Christian, but don't believe that Jesus is Savior.
well he clearly stated that it was the first time he got a visit, and did he ever say that they wouldnt leave? if you ask them to leave or say youre not interested most of them (from my experience, all) will leave peacefully. if they try to challenge that close the door and walk away. if they persist further and start slamming on the door and yelling, then call the cops, because thats a completely different matter. most jehovahs witnesses or mormons have very good purpose in mind, to most of them theyre trying to enlighten people. a simple "im not interested" is fine, if they try to stop you leaving or persist to harrass you then you have cause. but threatening them the second you open the door is completely uncalled for.
I have never come across a jehova witness that was turned away by a simple "i'm not interested" They would always stick their foot in my door so I couldn't shut it. :$ My husband told them he was a vampire, and that they were more than welcome to join at dinner. That did it
