I went to a korean market and the lady had a problem with it.

And then I went to another store, it hada no barefoot sign, but you know, I didn't care. Then someone comes up and tells me I gotta get out. He explained the two bullshit exscuses. It's a health code violation and there's broken glass. But I got all choked up so I couldn't really explain myself. But I told him that wasn't true. And I just told them it's too bad they don't want my money, and left. I came in a few minutes later to ask my friends a question, and I go in and someone says something on the intercom, and here comes the guy again. ugh. really pisses me off.

should I have done something else or said something?

That would have been funny if you used some plastic bags as shoes! Or maybe next time you could go back to the store in high heels and somehow find a way to trip and fall in the store because of them (don't get hurt, though).

Well unfortunately it happens to us all sooner or later. I know what you mean about getting all choked up and not being able to think of something to say to "justify" oneself. Still, f**k 'em I say, and if our custom's not good enough for them just because we are shoeless, then that's their problem.

Koreans are even worse than Americans regarding bare feet when outside the home, so don't fret about the first one.

Everyone is free to spend her/his money in shops she/he is welcome. May the owners of the other stores pauperize ...

But there aren't enough of us to pauperize the negative stores. We're just a drop in the bucket. Sadly. We had our chance once, when I was much younger. But even then there weren't enough of us, and we didn't stick to it.

The funny thing is that they don't mind bare feet inside so much, as much as they do (supposedly dirty) bare feet from outside coming inside.

    Hi CoolSpruce,

the "pauperizing effect" was meant ironic ;-)

But the rest was serious. If i feel not welcome in a store, i leave and spend my money somewhere else.

Behindthesun, if you think you got kicked off wrongfully, you may send a mail or letter to the store owner / headquarter. Maybe they are interested to hear about their local staff sending away customers. Maybe it has an effect, maybe it doesn't. But it's good for your ego to react in some way.

I've never been kicked out of a store... or really ever seen anyone kicked out for being barefoot. Although, and I think I've said this before, it's much easier for us dudetttes to go barefoot than it is for dudes. Sad but true. I used to work in a store when I was a teenager and people would come in barefoot occasionally. The manager was cool and never said a thing... he could've cared less.

That happened to me once. Me and my friends walked rom their house to a aonvience store down the street. I tried to go in barefoot and the lady yelled at me and told me to get out. So my friend was wearing slip ons, and he gave me one of his shoes so we were each hopping around on one foot. and the lady was just like "I DONT FIND THIS FUNNY. NOW BOTH OF YOU GET OUT."

And like you I didn't even know what to say, I got choked up. So I was jsut like "it wasn't meant to be funny.." and left.

Sorry this happened, but this is a great story. Especially the part where you and your friend were each wearing one shoe and were hopping around on one foot. :D

Pretty astounding that an employee would react that way. Perhaps a total lack of spending customers resulting from the economic crisis will cause folks to value them, shod or not.

Yeah it was pretty funny but at the time I was angry and felt insulted. And okay so me and my friend looked pretty ridiculous, but our "bare feet" weren't touching tohe ground when we each had a shoe on so...
Yeah seohsreven, hopefully they'll start having to accept everyone no matter what. :D

Congratulations. Welcome to the club. You aren't a real barefooter until you've been kicked out of somewhere. It's kind of like losing your virginity.

In the US maybe, here in the Netherlands you can go barefoot 100% of the time for ten years and not 'be a real barefooter' if you follow that rule... Most other countries don't have such anti-barefoot bias!
