... with killing. Yesterday I downloaded the demo of a WWII shooter called Call of Duty. It's a very fun game, though it goes against everything I stand for. You see, I'm kinda a hippie, and I'm strongly against war and violence. I'm so obsessed with it that I've beaten the demo on every difficulty level: greenhorn, regular, hardened, and veteran. It's nuts. So why do I find this game so much fun that I have no doubt I'll buy the full version? My theory is that it's the human fascination with violence and war. There's nothing to get the adrenaline pumping quite like hearing someone shout "MG42's! Hit the dirt!" It's just interesting to see what happened in WWII, and trust me, this seems to be a pretty accurate replica. In the demo you get the first mission. The objective of this mission for your platoon to capture the town of Ste. Mere Eglise, which is under Nazi occupation. The first section consists of you and your platoon crossing a minefield while under fire by machine guns and mortars. There's people falling to gunfire all around you, bombs going off everywhere, all your defenses are being blown apart, as well as people being thrown twenty feet in the air by mines. It's just horrible. And yet, I like it. Even though it goes against all of my core beliefs, I get this thrill from playing the game that makes me want to put writing second, though I don't. It still gets done every day. What do you think?
I see nothing wrong with it, it's just a game. You're not killing in real life, don't worry about it Get Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, now that is one cool fucking game :sunglasse
I think you're probably excruciatingly bored. Find some other hobbies to capture your interest and the fixation will probably disappear. Maybe you're growing out of the need to write and it's become a chore so the war games have picked up the slack.
Its a game. thats like sayin video games are the root of all evil or that teenagers kill all their friends cause of the game DOOM
Haha if you want more of that, you should download Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory, it's free and pretty fun...
i play this game called tibia and you kill things all the time. thats how you advance to become more.. reputable. and that is violence.. but even though i dont realyl bleeive i it..
no need to worry, it's only a video game. in real life, im sure it'd be much harder to pull that trigger. san andreas is pretty cool.
I agree with everyone. It's just a game so have fun! I guess you just sounded a bit concerned about enjoying it so much. I took your post the wrong way, sorry
i play a lot of soldier of fortune and when i disarm my enemies, i tend to stand behind them and shoot them in the head.
Lotta replies LOL. Anyway, I may have to try that wolfenstein thing. I guess if all of you peeps play violent games (most of you said you did) then I guess it doesn't matter. I just thought it was a bit odd to enjoy cowering in a blasted building and peeking out to shoot people, but I guess it is just a game. Thanks for the support. I can't wait for the full version :&
Let me know when you get it so we can play multiplayer If you think single player is cool, you ain't seen nothing yet Peace, Alex
There's just something fun about running around sniping people, and calling in air strikes to blow their shit up and such, especially when you know they are controlled by real people... Makes things more interesting too...
Ghost Recon!!! Get the first one, with all the expansion packs! I spent so many hours on those games... and the sequel is coming/already out. Yay for Christmas and Yay for gamer dads :sunglasse
OK, I'll do that. I can't remember your name so I'll have to find this thread again when I do, but I will. And also, I can only play games that have been released for Mac. I know, there's more on Windows, but I find Mac infinetely better. Anyway, they have a lot of good games, such as: Call of Duty, Everquest, All the Unreal Tournaments, and more that I can't think of. But those are like the backbone of computer games (excluding Counterstrike). Maybe not CoD, but EQ and UT are for sure. Anyway, I have EQ and I'll hopefully be getting UT2k4 as well. Drop me a line if you wanna meet up on EQ.
yeah, you shouldn't worry. it's only a game. it's not real. as long as you don't feel this way about life, you're fine.
This is my own personal oppinion. Video games are addictive. I love playing them but i dont. Somtimes i do thought. my bro got halo 2 and i played and and beat it. all it is, is a fuckin high. I really just dont wanna play games anymore. Id rather watch nation geographic channel or read a book. idk if im getting boring or what but i just got to the point were i wanna do somthing constructive and everything. I relized learning is one of the most powerful things you can posses. so why not learn instead of kill some dudes on the game and desesitize your soul. content
