I wasn't directly affected, and I still care. So just because you manage not to give a fuck, doesn't mean that's how it is for everyone.

no no i dont mean it like that. i mean that most people in my view are "over" it. not that they dont give a fuck, but that its not on peoples minds (besides from today). it dosnt seem to be a current thing any more its an event that happened in the past and thats "over with". im not trying to down play it at all im just saying that its more of a historical thing now...

remember directly afterwards, we saw an increase in patriotism, as well as people reconnecting with others in the neighborhoods. Well a year later most of that change had already been forgotten. Part of the shortterm American memory

worse things happen, if people put things in perspective the amount of sorrow and rememberance dedicated to 9/11 compared to things like the hollocaust, genocides, aids, etc. which in equal terms would be crying your eyes out everyday

To me thinking back it was just fucked up, i'd say it was definately the craziest most awsome [by defintion] things I had ever and may ever see, that whole day and event was about alot more than 2800 peoples lives or whatever it was.

all of it adds up just to show how fucked up the world is in general

a joke a buddy came up with:

"Who was aboard the 3 planes that actually crashed into targets?"

Yea really, I mean anyone who would call
that a cowardly act is only fooling
    themselves.
To die in that manner, for what you
believe in wether it is right or wrong in
the eye's of God or the people, takes
more courage than the majority of us
    have.
And they call Marines brave? They blow
away cities hiding behind massive equipment
while blasting ACDC on loud speakers so that
they dont even have to stop and THINK
    about what they are doing.
Pretty pathetic, if you ask me.
    But, whatever.
This war has nothing to do with 9/11 other
than being given an excuse to execute invasion
so I am going to stop bashing the army now. -

Don't. I honestly don't understand how all these "patriotic" people can justify murder. People in the middle east bleed the same blood.

Yea your right smile, but adding more hate
to a basically machine of hatred is only
    going to worsen the problem.
I know, like many people here do, several
people in the marines. They are not the kind
of people you would ever imagine would
sign up to kill people. Some of them are
shy, respectful people who just got brain
washed by their trap. But what they are
doing is of course horribly wrong and
backwards, but bashing them and hating
them only adds more negative vibration
to life. It seems that there is not much we
can do about it now, I dont think it's time
yet for love to override the situation.
    Give it more time -

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

    - John Stuart Mill, In Fear

War in necessary and if you don't think so the only one you're deluding is yourself. There is not difference between Americans and the terrorists, nor do I believe there should be. We are both opposite sides fighting for conflicting beliefs and morals, which can not be reconciled. There will either be a winner and a loser, or people on both sides continue to die. Everyone whines about torture and mistreatments of POWs, but it is a necessary evil. If you could save 100 lives by torturing one man, and you refused, you my friend are the biggest coward of all. Life's a game, and everyone is someone's pawn so get used to it.

I agree completely. But I also feel that if someone is trying to destroy your way of life you have the right to destroy theirs. Islamic Extremists want nothing less than a total conversion to conservative islam. That means no drugs or alcohol, no bacon, no porn, and pretty barbaric punishments for stupid and accidental effects.

Sorry but my freedom to do, eat, and say what I'd like is more important than their lives.

    What?!
That is pretty far from reality joe.
War is necessary if YOU are being personally
attacked and have no other option.
Iraq did not attack America, nor did it
    incite this war.
    Beyond that, the supposed terrorists
were mainly from Saudi Arabia, where
    is the outrage at them?
It's all stupid a mix of lies and they preyed
on the confusion of American morons who
have no idea what to believe. -

Haha, you're the one who is deluded, Joe. I suppose all of the people in Iraq are terrorists, right? Al Qaeda gave three reasons for attacking the US: its previous military intervention in Iraq, its support for Israel, and its having troops in Saudi Arabia. They are Islamic extremists, but it's pretty obvious that they flew planes into some buildings because the west has been blowing things up in the Middle East for the last 100 years, and not because of their religion.

I never said the Iraq war, so check yourselves. The Iraq war was a political and economic play, which obviously failed miserably. I'm talking about islamic extremists.

btw regarding the war in Iraq, obviously the president lied and we shouldn't be there for the reason's Bush stated. However, now that we're there we have to stick with it until order is restored. If we pull out now it will be worse than when we left Vietnam and allowed all those poor South Vietnamese allies to be slaughtered.

Undercooked: Your assertations are ludicrous. Bin Laden (the posterboy for the ultra-conservative and oftentimes violent islamic sect known as Wahhabism)

    Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wahhabi

He has stated numerous times that he will cease and desist violent actions against america once we covert fully to islam. Of course insinuating we convert to his lovely little version of islam.

I believe there is a muslim on this forum (I forget ur name sorry) who could at least verify some of what I have said. The average muslim detests these extremists as much, if not moreso, than the average American. Also to clarify not all wahhabists are terrorists or extremists, but their ideology influences many extremists who take the already conservative wahhabism a step further.

As for us supporting Israel I believe that again we fucked up and should not have placed them there, but now that they're there it's their job to take care of themselves. I do believe however that a key part of our support for Israel is because they share more similar values with us than their Islamic neighbors, and thus it's natural that we agree with them on more issues.

Personally I think all religion is foolish, divisive, and inherently juvenile.

Please take what I say at face value, and don't put words in my mouth. While I believe I have been fairly accurate with my little dissertation on islam and it's effects on terrorists and extremists, the Israel thing is of course my opinion.

I guess you didn't say anything about the Iraq War, and I shouldn't make assumptions about your generalizations since there is another war in Afghanistan.

Also, the link you posted is to an unreliable source, Wikipedia, which does not even support what you are saying. Nowhere in the entry about Wahhabism does it even mention Osama Bin Ladin. However, it does point out that the two main actors involved in Wahhabism are the Saudi royal family and the Muslim Brotherhood, both of which the US has supported in the past financially: to the Muslim brotherhood as a counterweight to socialism during the Cold War and to Saudi Arabia to upset the regional balance of power in the Middle East. As you've said, Osama Bin Ladin is a follower of Wahhabism, though but one among others just as significant who are pawns of the United States. By your rationale of associating correlation with causality, it is then more probable that Wahhabism influences its followers to be subservient to the US.

Perhaps Osama Bin Ladin "has stated numerous times that he will cease and desist violent actions against america once we covert fully to islam," but that would not be in accord with any common Islamic goal or even among Wahhabs. Islam has historically coexisted with other Abrahamic religions dating back to Mohammed allowing Christians and Jews to live without converting during caravan raids. If you read Bin Laden's "letter to the American people," (available here: http://observer.guardian.co.uk/worldview/story/0,,845725,00.html) you will see that there are passages from the Koran and such, but he does not state that his goal is to convert everyone to Islam; rather, the stated purpose of his attacks on the US is more focused on avenging past US foreign policy. Surely, some of the people who died in terrorist attacks have been Muslims.

I just don't think that terrorism is caused by religion. Of course, there are many fundamentalist terrorists, but it could be that the same things have driven them to fundamentalism as have driven them to terrorism.
