But, i wear flip-flops a lot. if i don't have to wear them though, i go barefooted. i ride my bike barefooted and my mom looks at me like im a crazy hippy!! lol, which is only half true. My question is, does that count? or is it like wearing shoes?? i honestly can say that i despise shoes.
Hmmm, tough call. It's kind of like, if you eat hot dogs once a month, are you still a vegetarian? Given that you don't wear them unless you "have to" and that the world is not black and white, but rather a spectrum, I'd say that if you're a barefooter at heart, then you qualify...
Naoki_ninja, yes you're perfectly qualified. The truth is, it's not easy to live completely barefoot all the time for a variety of reasons. Like you, I wear flip flops more than I go barefoot...I think the analogy seohsreven used about the hot dog and vegetarianism was close, but I would amend it as follows: I actually look at flip flops versus being barefoot, as more like the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan. Those of us who wear flip flops might still kick them off every chance we get, but because we might not be able to, or might not be inclined to, go barefoot all the time doesn't mean that we're any less involved in wanting to be judged for our character and our individuality, not for what we wear (or don't wear) on our feet. And as seohsreven rightfully said, if you're a barefooter at heart...then that counts for everything, in my mind. Being a barefooter is an attitude, in my mind, as much as it is a physical lifestyle choice. For me, wearing flip flops means I get almost all of the benefits of being barefoot, but with 90% less dirt.
thanx for the comments!! awsome, well, i haven't worn anything on my feet for about 2 days now; it's wonderful! but i'll have to put on some flip-flops when i go on my hiking trip.
I don't go barefoot all the time. For me part of the fun of going barefoot in public is that I feel like I'm getting away with something I'm not supposed to be doing. Now there was a time a while back when I took the summer quarter off from college, didn't have to work and I went barefoot for the entire month of June. I only had one pair of old shoes and one totally fell apart while I was out one day so I threw them away and didn't buy another pair until the 1st of July. That was fun because it sort of forced me to go everywhere barefoot since I didn't have any shoes to wear. The first week was a real rush because while I never thought twice about going without a shirt in public, I almost felt naked going barefoot.
Naoki_ninja, I agree .. you are a barefooter ! I have what I call two levels of 'barefoot' barefoot barefoot - nothing on the feet barefoot flipflop - flipflops or sandals NO SOCKS
