Stuck the nasty thing in the garage almost 5 years ago and never looked back. Anyone else weird that way?:cheers2:
Thats awesome. For the most part T.V. is full of crap anyways. Although educational programs do have their uses. I find that reading is more effective though for educational purposes. And I do enjoy something that is funny, like stand up comedy. Laughter is good for the body and soul. But everything else...bleh! Oh, I still have my T.V. BTW. And its not weird not to have one. Just because its against social norms does not make it wrong...
i have a tv but only like 12 channels i only had three channels for most of my life tv sucks for the most part
That is beyond weird Dude...I'm not even sure there is a word in the English language that defines such reckless and irrational behavior.
That's me. I don't watch over the air TV, but I download shows and movies that interest me. Pay-TV service (cable/satellite) is way too expensive considering the ratio of good programming to crap. It's much more efficient for me to pay for a highspeed internet connection and download the shows I actually want to see.
Yeah it's pretty hard to not watch any form of "tv" in this modern day of age. It could be considered tv when you go to the movies, its considered tv to use the computer imo, cell phones could be a form of tv, and even driving down streets of las vegas you can watch tv from your car. So just because you don't use an actual "tv" doesn't change anything unless you avoid "media" altogether. I don't even watch "tv" ive got what i want on my laptop.
Yeah, I download torrents of select movies and shows, and I have a NetFlix subscription. By being selective that way, I avoid turning into the drooling moron that makes up a large fraction of the people I see around me every day. Ever watch the movie Idiocracy? http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Idiocr...042984901_0_0&strackid=5ffc6a447f7dfa65_0_srl Fiction imitates reality...
I've not had one for years - when I did I barely ever watched it, so one day decided it was just too much deadwood, and expensive too, what with the cost of the UK TV licence. One thing you really notice is how much TV rules the lives of some other people...to the extent that their whole conversations revolve around what they watched last night or will watch tonight. I worked in a place where I was pretty much excluded from any conversations because I didn't have a TV and my colleagues didn't have lives.
Ha! I've noticed the same thing. I felt a little weird the other day when someone asked me matter-of-fact what I thought about last night's American Idol. I was completely flummoxed. I had no idea what she was talking about. I thought it was some kind of reality TV thing until I looked it up later. Made me that much glad I don't have one of those infernal machines eating my free time. And what's this? You guys have to buy a "TV License"?
Sure do. It goes to fund the BBC, which doesn't take advertising. We also have independent channels which do, but even if you just watch them and ignore the BBC altogether, you still must by the licence. And the government has a whole department that ensures that you dont grab any unlicensed TV. They send round vans full of detection equipment to stalk the streets ! A court appearance and fines for transgressors ! And even though I haven't had a set since who knows when, I still get warning letters about my adress not being licensed, and all the bad things they'll do to me if they catch me clandestinely watching. Here's an extract: It is a criminal offence to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV unless you have a TV licence. It doesn't matter what equipment you use: digital box, PC or laptop; or mobile phone. If you watch TV on these devices or anything else, you need a licence. Absolutely nothing I own - PC included - is capable of receiving TV broadcasts. Sinisterly, they add at the bottom of the letter: If we dont hear from you, our Enforcement Division will schedual a visit. Well, they haven't heard from me, so... if I suddenly stop posting on here, you'll know I've been sent to a rehabilitation unit and made to watch soap operas until I crack and buy a licence...
we have a tv in about every room but I myself hardly ever watch tv. it bores me and I cant find anything good on. Ill stop to watch a couple shows I like but thats about it
Hi, here in Germany we have to pay for radio and tv and other 'receiving devices', too. I have no tv for nearly 20 years now. But every few weeks the company that collected the fees sends a threatening letter. They want to know what happened to my tv etc. They have three levels of threatening, then they start again with the basic level . The reason we have such a system is to guarantee a basic unbiased and free of advertisement supply of information for every citizen. But there is not much difference between the programs participating at this system and the commercial programs in terms of 'quality' and advertising. Tons of the collected fees are thrown on sports events, that are obscene expensive today, huge amounts of money stick at the staff (esp. functionaries) of the company collecting the money, etc. That all counteracts the original reason of the system. There are lots of people who try to reform that system. But as there is a lot of money involved I guess we have to live with it at least another five or ten years. Regards Gyro
Hi, jepp, living for years without a tv it bores me to death if I'm invited for a tv night. Well, I like movies, I like going to a movie theater. But after watching for an hour or so it becomes uncomfortable. Can't explain it. Regards Gyro
Well, at least we dont have to buy a radio licence anymore. Did have to once - before my time - I think it dated back to when the BBC was formed in the 1920s and radios were all there were, and you could only get BBC programmes anyway, unless you could pick up European stations like Radio Luxembourg. I think probably times are changing in communications faster than state organizations are able to think up new ways of controlling them.
