I used to be a political junkie. I would normally be glued to the TV during a debate but I could give a shit less about the Republican debate.

I know exactly how its going:
every politician but ron paul: lie, lie, lie
    ron paul: logic, common sense
every politician but ron paul: aw, that silly Ron Paul. No wonder no one takes him seriously.

    Sooo..anyone watching the debate?

i hate politics too, but our country/world could be fucked (not like it isn't already) but it could get worse.

i'm listening to the Republican presidential debate right now just because i'm so concerned a republican might take office in 2012. (doubt i'll listen to the whole thing due to frustration, but we shall see)

Ron Paul has some good stances, but his views on the environment PISS me off

i want a new liberal candidate that joins the candidacy like McCarthy did in the 68 election, campaigning against the incumbent, Johnson. He pushed to end the Vietnam war ASAP...we need something like that now. On the other hand, Johnson launched VISTA; it really is easy to bury your head because politics is sooo effing frustrating, resulting in apathy.

Homophobic, anti-environment, what else do Americans want in a political candidate?

Its funny because I was the same way...glued to the tv, hanging on to every bit of news I got on politicians.

I've since given up on that. They're all the same person in a different suit. Our country is still shit, our economy is still deteriorating, and our lives are still in shambles.

yup, and I care about the state of our country. I get passionate about that. It just seems like the guys running the show are a farce. They offer absolutely nothing.

My roommate has the channel turned to the debate, and I seriously just heard a political pundit say in reference to a republican candidate:

    Seriously?

    People take this seriously?

If a tv goes on in the room i'm in and it involves news/reports/politics i just get up and walk away. I have for years because it all just pisses me off. Its filed with lies as the OP says, they all talk the same, and act the same when they report, don't matter what country you in. Its fear-mongering at its finest. I'm amazed how people think we are going in a good direction when you look at the history of our presidents since kennedy. To me its obvious we don't have a say in the matter. The vast majority doesn't even seem to realize it. Either that or everyone is stuck in the closet.

what i think is going on with that is that a just bearly large enough to be called one majority, or maybe just a large minority, seem to have allowed themselves to be convinced to expect to get something out of it.

others of course, still buy into the notion that however bad what they're familiar with, anything else would have to be worse.

only a MUCH smaller minority actually believe what they're familiar with can do no wrong.

Ron Paul is a right wing libertarian idiot. He is preaching the same neo-liberal garbage that has caused so many of the worlds problems.

I’ve been criticising right wing libertarian views for years and they never seem able to defend their ideas - but what’s worse is that as often as not, they don’t even get asked to.

So please explain to me what is so logical about Ron’s views what makes it so obviously ‘common sense’?

A politician is someone that takes an interest in politics, I think posting in a politics forum counts – in other words all of us here are politicians.

So are you untrustworthy are you a liar and a cheat?

The thing is that I get the impression that there has been a concerted effort in some quarters to malign ‘government’ and ‘politicians’ because it suites its agenda (government is the problem).

Yes I think the US politician system isn’t working in the best interests of the American people and is well overdue for reform. But the big problem seems to be that wealth has gained too much influence within the system – but the right wingers are not interested in bring about a balance so that the people have a say and more influence they want to hand even more power and influence to wealth.

And political apathy brought about by propaganda that all ‘government’ is bad and all ‘politicians’ are corrupt plays right into their hands.

You want your government back then you’ll need to work and fight to get it back.

A politician certainly is a person who takes an interest in politics but - in my opinion - not everyone taking an interest in politics is a politician. My definition of a politician would be a person whose job or career is in politics or who intends to go for that line of work.

The problem with politics (and government) in general is that it really is completely detached from the people's will .... except when campaigning for votes, then they seem to listen to everybody.

The same old names cycle in and cycle out. When they're out, they're lobbyists. When they're in,they stick to the party line, which may or may not help the majority of citizens. I believe that behind closed doors, they laugh their asses off when they see the results of how gullible the masses are. It's become a big joke to them that we allow them to be on the gravy train damn near for life. The repubs want strict Darwinism and the dems have no balls with which to stop them. It's about living on the taxpayer for as long as possible. It's pretty obvious it's their way all the way, when you realize that the two parties can block 3rd,4th or even 5th parties from debates and elections. Money out of elections would be a start, but with the conservative supreme court and the successfull way it works for the entrenched--that's not going to happen. I guess I do give a damn about politics--I've been around long enough to have seen the degradation of the political, social and economic lives of my fellow citizens and the country at large.

No,I didn't walk 9 miles to school in the snow--but believe me--it has been much-much better. I didn't watch those people blab the same old clap-trap, mainly about how to screw the middle and poor classes. Unfortunately those very classes will vote against their own interests. Sorry to bore you folks that don't care any more--can't say I blame you.
