http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7562938.stm I think the methodology has to be flawed. further, I think that the study was designed to provide a certain outcome
you'd think the braver folks would be more likely to cheat. after all, every smart person knows that 9 times out of 10, morality and fairness are facades that the timid hide behind, because to most people avoiding trouble is more important than getting ahead.
I also question what their definition of bravery is overcoming fear bravery, or not smart enough to see peril brave.
brave is a very loaded word. I just remembered Colbert called Dara Torres' abdomen a "meat xylophone".
Maybe they're just better at lying. How are they measuring bravery, honesty, empathy, etc.. in these tests anyway?
i don't buy any of that article. i would have cheated, but doing so would have been much more work than just going to class and putting the correct answers on tests
i would have to read the study to come to any conclusions that its flawed...but its not something i really care about, so i'm not going to search and find the actual study to read
true. finding new ways to cheat that aren't already known is MUCH harder than just doing the damn work
well, you gotta face the fear of failing if you don't cheat. i hated cheating and cheaters. fuckers always nagging you to hand over your work so they can copy it, using their fucking social status to bully you or try to charm you. fuck 'em all.
depends what you're cheating at, most people wouldnt have the guts to cheat at a proper test, a regulated one, but have no issues with cheating on coursework or classroom tests.
this reminded me of somethign funny that happened in one of my econ classes for a midterm, we were allowed to bring in notes - now a good amount of people used my notes, well, because i found the answers online, so i just made them my notes and passed it out. some will say cheating, some will not... the funny part came when i got the highest score in class (a high 90 score), while some of the people with the notes almost failed. i didn't need the notes, i knew the underlining theory and application of it, while the ones who failed didn't and tried to save themselves with the notes. so when they wrote up the answers, the either completely killed the theory or just answered it with the wrong answer because they didn't understand haha. some came up to me after we got the scores back complaining that i fucked them over....my answer "maybe you should have studied" haha
reminds me of the time these two bozos, just wanted to see what i'd done to help them figgure out how to do it because it was do and there wasn't really time left to figure it out. well three samples of code got turned in, all three with my name in the rem statement. i lost half credit for beeing a sucker, but at least they got none, and a good bit of ridicule in front of everyone for being THAT stupid besides. i mean, they could have at least read the stupid thing! even i got a good laugh out of it. =^^= .../\...
If the outcome was consistent with what the designers desired then the methodology was not flawed from their perspective. I find myself doubting the true objectivity of just about anything presented as an objective study as there's too often an agenda behind it all that has little to do with educating and more to do with creating bias.
and what, pray tell, is the meaning of getting ahead, when the mob has a hit out on one's own? for that matter, what the hell is this "ahead" horse shit anyway? the only "ahead" i know of, that means and is worth anything, is gratification, and that comes from creating and exploring, NOT trying to impress anyone, and certainly not putting trying to impress anyone ahead of the kind of world we all have to live in. =^^= .../\...
ahead means having to pay less to go to a nicer school so you can make connections with the children of the people in power and hopefully supplant them for their power.
i thought it meant getting work you loved in a place you wanna be and have enough money to go do the fun stuff you wouldn't be able to afford anyway.
while making yourself too sick with anxiety to enjoy doing so? thanks but no thanks. and the other one, what the heck is "power" supposed to gratify if you can't do anything that would make this world a happier and more gratifying place for everyone with it? =^^= .../\...
