By the logic that instant dreads are legit, by any means, wax is just fine.

I mean, it can be. But it still shouldn't be brought up right away if someone asks how to get dreads. Unless the person has tried neglect, "wait" would usually be the best answer.... And I mean this for the sake of the dreads as well. I tried tnr on one, and it looked like it had bubblegum in it for weeks, then totally fell out and has been no faster to lock for the time spent looking like I rolled in gum. As far as I can tell, the only difference is that neglect locks slightly faster, because it doesn't first have to fix itself.
