I was thinking the same thing about the 2012 Olympics in London. LAst year when so many people were struggling with money and losing their jobs, we were still paying millions building new stadiums etc.

I mean I am happy the UK has the Olympics and I am sure it will be worth it, but at times like this perhaps things could be different.

what people like you dont get is that if you didn't get the Olympics, that money would NOT be going to creating jobs

that money is only created for the games, its not like there is this magical surplus that if the games weren't coming, it could be spent elsewhere.

Of course i couldnt expect less from a "hippy" forum, uneducated, unreasonable posts are what clutter this place all day long.

Yes, because the millions spent on a few weeks of sport and entertainment could not be spent more wisely could it?! Are you in the UK? If not, then you probably don't know what we think about the Olympic games coming here.

Besides, you don't actually know what "people like me" really think about a lot of things, even less so about our education.

One think I really do hate is people who assume and generalise.

It's not money they're spending...it's NEW DEBT....that working Canadians will have to pay off through taxes that are already too high.

I've looked around quite a bit and can't find any statement anywhere that says HipForums is a "hippy" forum.

I do see where it welcomes educated and uneducated posts though :)

Everyone is welcome here...even idiots and trolls.:coffee:

    NEW DEBT

OMG.. how much do you make per year? 35,000k? you dont pay fucking -SHIT- into olympic games taxes, if your a real fucking cheapskate then ya you might notice a $15-20 increase on property taxes but odds are if you notice that difference you are hanging on by a string in Vancouver.

"Debt" is a word, do you actually think economic times, infrastructure improvements, School funding, etc. rely on wether a country/province is in the black or the red??

I have a double major in Finance Accounting, I understand the world and the global economies far better than most, Living in Vancouver and being out and about these past 3 days, I can honestly say i think this will end up being the biggest moment in Vancouvers history, it will do so much for this city people living away who do not understand it will never know what these games are going to do.

I feel the same way wholeheartedly.

Plus the stadium is just going to be knocked down and 'recycled'. I still believe there will be a huge surplus of waste and it will have been to expensive and endeavor than the UK needs.

I wish we never had the Olympic deal, so I can understand a Canadian's concerns for the winter ones.

I am watching it right now mind, and it is pretty good :p but give it a week 'cos I am off to Mount Tremblant on Wednesday and probably wont hear the end of it!
