How is it that we have a political structure that encourages politicians to espouse morally conservative policies, yet have personal lives or values that are the complete opposite.

Today it's made headlines around the world that we have a US Republican Presidential Candidate, Newt Gingrich who publicly espouses socially conservative rhetoric - anti gay marriage, hints at being anti abortion yet he is being accused by his ex Marianne, that he had asked her to have an 'open marriage'.

It was after she asked him if he was having an affair that its reported he went off to a conference to promote policies around "family values" then rang his wife and suggested they have an open marriage. She divorced him.

I think, like many people, that whatever a politician does in their private lives is their own business, but when it comes out that they are trying to legislate or promote contradictory policies on the rest of us then surely we should ask what has gone wrong?

Arrr what has gone wrong with politics?

Politicitians are the most highly paid unskilled people on the planet , if you can lie with a straight face and smile when you kill , thats all the qualifications you need . They have to appear to be these model upstanding citizens with a wife/husband and 2.5 kids but fail to mention all the other women and or men in there lifes or any other little indescretions in there otherwise "perfect lives" at election time just to get your vote.

Its always been like that and always will be ...:cuss:

It's a finely tuned process to find the individual with high enough morals to be a taxpayer funded criminal, It's analogous to the tale told in "Alice's Restaurant" where having a record as a litterbug renders one morally unqualified to dress up in fatigues and kill people.

Newt's idea of an "open" marriage is purchasing his whores outright with blowjob diamonds, while his wife cowers under his raised hand.

Everyone of these republican "candidates" are career lifelong politicians who have sold their souls and their country to the few evil elite who really run and own this country . They are mere puppets with an invisible hand up there sorry asses. Who spew hypocrisy and shit from there corrupt mouths , under the flag and label of the rep. "traditional christian family values " . Every one of them is mega rich , with the I got mine , let the rest starve mentality . Yeah they have real christian family values alright . There only care in life is greed . And the democrats aren't any better , how can you be rich and say you have the interests of the common man ? They have more in common with the republican G.O.P. , then the common man .

Every four years they play a fake game of illusion , with the sheepole of this country which is based on lies , smoke and mirrors . And every four years these blind fools eat it up ,from both of these corrupt parties ,as if they really have control and say in the running and direction of this nation . Nothing could be further from the truth however . When you have bought and paid for every candidate in the race from both sides , how can you lose ? Yet we as people never demand better , or hold either of these bullshit parties accountable , never push for a real middleclass third party option . And that's why this nation is on the brink of destruction !

The media only gives its blessing to the RICH . Preselected , owned , soulless , sell out ,pieces of human shit . that the rich elite oligarchy has hand picked and chosen , as their puppets on a string . And how pray- tell are we the cattle , supposed to pick a "moral" just candidate out of a field of all turds ? Non of these "people" think for themselves or talk about the real issues , they are career yes men and do as their overlord tells them . As long as they gain financially , there happy to play the game . With a big giant invisible hand up there sorry asses . Soulless , spineless, losers everyone of them . Like the old saying goes , " you can't polish a turd " . It's rotten from the inside out .You can only politically correct it and spin it to a gullible nation . And we should have stopped believing in fairy tales long ago .

When you elect someone, you are hiring them to do a job. They make promises in campaign speeches about what they will do in office. Why would you care about Newt's personal life? You say that you don't care, but your actions show that you do. I don't get it. I don't see the problem. If you are deep into the family values stuff and think a candidate will promote those values better than his opponents, then vote for him. No need to make it more complicated.

One of the many reasons why I voted for Obama is that I did not think he would try to push a family values conservative agenda. His private, family life appears to be something that the average social conservative would totally approve of, but that makes no difference to his supporters. Should he go out and cheat on Michelle just to prove he isn't a hypocrite? That would be stupid and irrelevant. I wouldn't care one way or the other. His policies impact my life. His sex life does not.

I'm sure that political adversaries on the far right would agree that Obama's sedate family life doesn't make them feel any better about him being in office.

Do you see the double standard here?

Thanks Tazer my friend , but that would be a death sentence for the wolf , they would do away with me in two days time . There would always be room on that ticket for you too. We need wise men true leaders , who don't sell out to the highest bidder . And until we get big business off the hill , dictating its terms to our government , control of the corrupt media , America out of the U.N , and the U.N out of America , we are doomed . Yet as long as there are people like you and I and others who see the truth for what it is, there is hope to rebuild from the ashes of destruction that social classes greed and mass consumption have levied on this nation and the world . Lets just hope that we and our children learn that money , greed and power are the root of evil . When they are rebuilding it from the ashes of what these madmen and megalomaniacs will have left them .

Very true on the death sentence, we would have to clean all of them out of office and start fresh before we will ever have a chance to get things changed.

You ask that, and yet I have the feeling you want to ask What`s gone wrong with monogamy?, otherwise this would be in another forum.

If what I`ve read is correct, human beings are socially monogamous, not biologically monogamous. Hence our inherent need for hypocrisy.

Additionally, what kind of man in his right mind who is famous is going to stick to one woman when women throw themselves at them? Marriage for powerful men is but public relations. Monogamy only works for doormats.

    Fixed...

Anyway, concepts like family values and infidelity are just ways of pandering to a constituency that identifies itself as Christian and votes in high numbers. The whole premise is to establish the notion that a candidate (in this case, Newt) is somehow morally unqualified to hold down an office whose major functions show themselves to be misleading the public and dressing up corruption as though it were in our best interests. The prez is little more than a cheerleader for the oligarchy dressed up as though he were an actual executive. His job is to do little more than make pretty speeches.

To paraphrase an old lawyer joke:
How can you tell that a politician is lying?

    His (her) lips are moving.

Male brains are hardwired to think this way. Women, not so much. During sex, female brains produce a chemical that triggers emotional attachment to our partners, pushing us in the direction of monogamy. That's not to say that we can't learn to overcome this natural tendency. I found that it got easier for me as my partner total increased. And I'm sure there are variations in the strength of this instinct among individuals.

Politically, you always speak in regard to business and finance. I'm not going to disagree with your point, but surely you can see major differences between the parties when it comes to social/moral issues, and the President's views on those do matter because of Supreme Court appointments. The big corporations are always going to be taken care of by Uncle Sam, so maybe the social and moral issues are the only ones where the public really does get a vote that counts.

Politic by definition is possessing or displaying shrewdness, tact, or cunning. Honesty is not a requirement.
