Yes, it is true. After a year or two of thinking about it and preparing, AND although the qualifying fee is ridiculous, I am going to jump into the black waters of politics. I going to run for State Representative of my district. For those of you who may think I am running for Congress, I am not. It is simply a STATE seat in the State Legislature. I know sometimes people confuse the two. So, no I will not be in the same "House" as Nancy "No Backbone" Pelosi. Although, if I wear I may have to kick her in the rump and get her to DO SOMETHING worthwhile...but...anyway...I digress... My website is being constructed and my plan is laid out plain and simple. I am only running to give my district an alternative to the BIG BUSINESS Insurance Salesman STATE REPRESENTATIVE we have had for the past eight years. My campaign is going to be a silent force with little showboating. Just a website, a few newspaper ads, and WORD OF MOUTH. I used to be the editor of our county newspaper, so I have a "name" status, I just don't know whether that "name" is hated more or loved more... We'll see. It'll be fun. And hell, I may win. If so, I've got some real good ideas. They will be on my website when it is finished.
What state are you from? Good luck, and congratulations on your decision to run. We need some fresh blood in all levels of government.
wow,, how do you propose to win with your liberal views in the devils den of good old boys politics?? oh this should be fun to watch for sure...
Thanks guys! I am from the RED STATE of Georgia. So, it's going to be quite tough. My district is real "red", but I believe that I can present an alternative and speak to the working poor who make up 80% of my district. If I can convince them that I am running for the common folk's interests and not my own or special interests, I think it may work.
HH, it is mostly a choice based on two things : 1) An alternative for the working poor. 2) This current "representative" has run UNOPPOSED the last two times. And it is not because he is popular. It's because people are lazy.
is that the 43rd district? i dunno i think i remember where ya said ya lived,an i just glanced at a map,,there is a bunch of them down that way....
5th,, cool ill keep a eye out for ya.. good luck,, youll need it... 5th?? just looked at a map,, hell i knew we were neighbors, but i didnt realize you were that close.. lol ill be in ranger couple days after new years workin..
Yeah, I know that I will not be able to do a lot of things that I would like, but what I can do is represent the working man and help to protect our beautiful mountain areas.
I really don't expect a victory, but I am prepared for one. This fellow I am running against has a political machine behind him, but I believe the people may see that he has done NOTHING that benefits the common person, and that THAT will be my only goal.
One problem for you ,as I see it,is getting the press,tv,ect,to pay attention to someone that DOESN"T have a political machine to do the dirty work. The media these days is mainly a bunch of conservative suck-asses from top to bottom.I don't know how you get around that.
There are a lot of places that could use some fresh blood. And it wouldn't be that difficult. In some communities folks have found that there is so little interest in elections that ANYONE has a shot at local seats. The last mayoral election in our county seat saw the new mayor winning with less than 85 votes...
Well, in our area, there is no one willing. So I am. I believe I actually have a chance because, unfortunately OR fortunately, people in our area usually just vote name recognition (which I have), whoever is first on the ballot (which I'll be, due to my last name), and/or party line (lots of working Democrats in our blue collar town). My two issues will be : WORKING FOR THE COMMON MAN and SAVING AND CLEANING UP OUR ENVIRONMENT. I will also push for Instant Runoff Voting legislation for our State.
oh trust me, the district hes in, television would be all but useless to campaign through. i live 1 district over and i cant recall a television ad for a state representative,of course i havent had a television in almost ten years lol.. he already stated hes a former editor of the local newspaper so im sure he will do fine there, not that the news papers here are known for there in depth coverage of candidates.. you gotta remember scratcho, hes running in a small rural district. no if i were him i think all my cash would go into signs and his website.then if any was left radio ads.
HH is absolutely right. This district is really rural and doesn't call for much TV or radio. Just signs, ads and I think the website will be good too, especially if I advertise it.
