It's all go now. Got my vaccinations done today, most of the furniture is sold and the last lot of it is getting picked up by the charity store tomorrow. My boyfriend has to complete his mandatory military service for 2 years and I am going too. (Not in the army too, I will teach English, lol). He is really pissed off, but it has to be done, and there is nothing we can do about it. I don't speak Korean at all and until he starts in the army and I start working we will be living with his family - who don't speak English. Should be interesting! My boyfriend is very Westernised so there is not a lot I know about the culture. It's such an adventure for me. Can't wait to throw myself in the deep end and start learning the language, travelling around the country, etc. What I am worried about is being alone a lot of the time as once he starts his service he doesn't get a lot of time off. I think it will be a real test for our relationship. This isn't the first time I have put my life in a suitcase and headed over to Asia to live. I did live in China for some time - but that was a little more planned and I could speak some of the language. This time is definitely more into the unknown!!
Sounds like adventure awaits! Your China experience should stand you in good stead. I hope his parents adopt you without reservation - that would be huge. Good luck. :2thumbsup:
Thanks guys. I will be sure to keep everyone updated. I am a pretty entertaining travel writer :sunny: I am a bit worried about a vegetarian in Korea - apparently to them 'vegetarian' means you only eat chicken and fish, lol.
Oh God...Korean food is so meaty. However the language is beautiful, or at least I like it. I'm not sure what it'll be like at restaurants but it should be pretty easy to buy your own rice, fruit, veg. Be careful of the kimchee it can totally be veg, but sometimes fish sauce or other seafood is put in it.
take lots of pictures, of places, and post them somewhere on the net, with links to where they are, so we can all see them.
