LOL!! I just gotta laugh at the names the media comes up with to create hype and scare the proverbial shit out of people. You go to the store here right now and there's just tons of panicked old people out buying up all the water and other items. It's really kind of comical, but also rather annoying. So this big ass storm is supposed to make landfall next week (as in Monday night). It's supposed to come on land somewhere between New Jersey and Maryland, and drop just a ton of rain over a small period of time. It is a huge storm in terms of its expanse, so a good portion of the Northeast will be impacted by this... ...if it turns out as bad as they're saying it's going to be. Right now it definitely looks like it's going to create some problems. But it will be interesting to see if this turns out to be as bad as they're calling it. I think there will definitely be some major flooding, but it remains to be seen what exactly happens and if it will be the major crisis it's already being claimed to be. Looks like Halloween might be canceled for the kiddies this year. Anyway, what will be interesting about this storm is that there will be three merging weather systems over a heavily populated region. Some areas are expecting up to 10 inches of rain.
50 bucks says it dont make it over the central Pennsylvania mountains,, meaning, Im getting the same light showers Im getting now., however.. these will be constant showers.. Amanita weeks are coming..
yes..thats hwy 17 in Wawa this frankenstorm is supposed to hit south ontario hard on monday or tuesday...it shouldnt effect the north much from what theyre predicting
To the original poster's points: 1. The media definitely does tend to over-hype storms before they hit - frightened people are more likely to go out and buy things, just like the store scene you describe. It's more about goading people to spend money than informing and protecting them. 2. You have to admit, Frankenstorm is a wonderful name for this thing. Three weather systems coming together, just like the parts of Frankenstein's monster. Plus, it's Halloween week - the perfect time to bring out the monster allusion. It's beautiful in its absurdity.
because of the wind here the hydro is all re inforced already....power outage is the main worry for me
Irene knocked my power out for two days. That line of thunderstorms that came through Maryland back in June knocked my power out for three days. I'm filling my freezer completely full of bottled water tonight and turning the temperature all the way down. everything will stay frozen for a couple of days like that. Tomorrow I'm going to move the frozen water bottles into my fridge and put more water in the freezer. I have learned a thing or two in the last year.
Never know, it could be an even worse storm than they predict, Frankenstorm might not even do it justice, they might have to come up with an even more bad-ass movie monster to describe it...like "storm-zilla" or "The storm from the black lagoon" or... help me out here...
better safe then sorry they say we got generator in case power goes out well water so well have water causei can plug pump in to generator so all we need is a bunch of gas incase the gas stations dont have power to bottled water to drink because well water isnt good to drink atleast ours isnt so we shall see....
After you've lived through the storm of the century (the perfect storm) back in 1991 all other are small by comparison :hide: Hotwater
