Beware West Coast Floridians! And all others inland, another drencher is on the way, perhaps knocking at your door right now. But I hope you all have evacuated safely to higher ground, someplace safe. It is inconceivable that this is happening a second time in just a week or so. Bad times... My sister lives in Sarasota, elevation 12 feet. She is supposedly on the Alligator Alley heading east to Ft. Lauderdale to stay with relatives, I hope she gets there safely! Just look at this! It is a monster!
I know people in Sarasota. Apparently, so they've been told, they can remain. Not sure that I would. Hoping it's not as bad as expected but I fear that may be forlorn.
Hurricane Milton is an extremely powerful tropical cyclone currently impacting the U.S. state of Florida, less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene devastated the state's Big Bend region. The thirteenth named storm, ninth hurricane, fourth major hurricane, and second Category 5 hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, Milton formed from a long-tracked tropical disturbance which originated in the western Caribbean Sea and consolidated in the Bay of Campeche on October 5. The storm then underwent explosive intensification, and became a Category 5 hurricane on October 7. At peak intensity, the hurricane was the fifth-most intense in the Atlantic on record, and is the most powerful tropical cyclone worldwide in 2024. Milton weakened back to Category 4 strength after undergoing an eyewall replacement cycle before regaining strength and becoming a Category 5 hurricane again. ~Wikipedia at 10:45 am (pacific time) Wednesday, October 9, 2024 https://www.nbcnews.com/weather/hurricanes/live-blog/hurricane-milton-live-updates-rcna174624
My partner's sheltering in place in St. Petersburg in a mandatory evac zone a block away from Tampa Bay. Took my sweet, gentle dog to the vet for her rabies shot today; she has lymphoma. Got home tonight; my sweet, loving sister-in-law has an aneurysm which may kill her at any moment. FUUUUUUUUCK!
Im sorry for you sister in law.... How do people stay in a MANDATORY EVAC AREA?? -- Dont they go door to door and make sure everyone is out??
United States of America Every US citizen is owner in possession of their own flesh and mind and unless they can say its harming them or some crucial thing, no, not really. Not that many disagree though and most on the coast kinda just do what the "authority" person says. Got to remember though, if they said leave and you don't, they aren't obliged over what happens to you or if you need help. you are on your own.

I am happy to hear that it wasn't worse. Tampa must be feeling blessed, as the storm surge missed them...this time. People, you have to consider moving away from these dangerous areas! It's like building homes in a known flood plain.
