This monster deserves its own thread The Hurricane Florence forecast has gone from bad to worse Euro models are now calling for a southwest shift after it makes landfall, creating a worse case scenario as far as flooding
She's a crazy bitch. My beloved Savannah and Tybee Island... I have relatives that will have to leave their properties there. Also, I need to get the tarp on my roof.
It's more afraid if ya'll than ya'll are of it I swear. No in all seriousness you folks buckle down & be safe.
Looks pretty bad but I’m a bit skeptical. I remember the hysteria down here last year over Irma and it hit the coastal areas mainly which isn’t surprising. Evacuating one million people in NC? Better safe than sorry but...after the hysteria with Irma, I’m kinda skeptical.
I think to err on the side of caution is always the best bet when it comes to Natural Disasters. A quick Google search shows that after Irma, a 134 people aren't around to share your skepticism.
You have to look carefully at those stats though. Many death stats are from heart attacks during situations like this not a direct cause from the disaster. There were assisted living facilities whereby people were left there in their wheelchairs covered in water. Those stats are a direct cause of the disaster. Of course even one death is too many but Puerto Rico is different, it’s an island. The keys, similar. Miami suffered too. But they are near water. I just will never leave my home again and jump on the hysteria band wagon. Very few homes were damaged inland. Nothing like they scared everyone about. Your roof’s going to blow off ...you better evacuate! Everyone buying plywood and emptying out grocery stores. I’m not a conspiracy theorist but...it’s just intetesting how the economy blows up.
The fires in CA to me are scarier than hurricane season. I would def take the evacuation warnings about the fires, seriously if I lived in CA.
I'm pretty sure Katrina, which was inland, wreaked even more havok than Irma. But Hurricanes aren't a concern to me where I live, so I probably don't really understand the mindset of preparing (or not) for a natural disaster.
Fires aren't really a concern to me where I live either, earthquakes are but hit without much notice.
The mindset is the earth is coming to an end and we must find a way out lol I don’t judge anyone who stocks their garage full of shit to prepare but not us. My husband gets into it like it’s an adventure, I’m just like...this is a huge interruption in my life. I get that it’s better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully, things won’t be too horrific in NC. It is scary when everyone around you is panicking and evacuating.
Apparently I was laughing during the worst one of my life, when I was a kid. They are pretty scary though, there's like 2 types I've noticed. One that just shakes everything back and forth and the other where the ground feels like it's rolling in waves underneath you. I'm not sure if this has to do with proximity to the epicenter or the way the faults react but yah it's kind of surreal.
fill your bathtubs with water also new garbage cans or old ones lined with bags. Water is important store as much as you can.
Hurricane Tracker App @hurrtrackerapp #Florence is a huge hurricane. Hurricane force winds extend out up to 70 miles from the center (winds over 100 mph are closer to the center) and tropical storm force winds extend out up to 175 miles! This will unfortunately impact many far from the center's track.
The biggest danger with hurricanes isnt the initial hit but the flooding. And Florence is going to be another Harvey situation where it stalls out over land and drops ridiculous amounts of rain for days. Some of these coastal towns already have bad flooding problems on a normal day so this is going to get ugly for them
