I don't really have idols, but Hunter S. Thompson comes really close. I love his writings, it is so out of left-field but Dr. Thompson is such a crazily good writer he is able to pull it off. He's quite a twisted character, but also a genius - sorta like Chuck Palahniuk. "New Journalists" like Thompson and Wolfe are why I was inspired to go into English Writing and Creative Non-Fiction/Journalism.
