    Hello everyone,
Ive searched everywhere, and cant find an answer, so apologies if this is already answered somewhere else!
Question is: how the heck do I start my hair to dread (in equal sections) without backcombing? and without any wax. Do I clean my hair with residue free shampoo, avoid conditioner, and then put it into sections with rubber bands and palm roll a lot? This is all I can think of.
I have found someone to do them for me, no wax, and I don't know what she will be doing for the money....... can I do it myself as good?

u can do it yourself better
but if u do pay, be sure u know exactly what shes doing or you'll end up with a total mess
what id do, wash it, shake it out..& as it starts to knot up just keep seperting into sections
in a few weeks you'll start to dread nicely

thanks, that helps. Well, that leaves me only one question, then Im away! (And it'll be this afternoon, too!) You see, I've never once washed my hair without residue or conditioner, and I'm scared I might lose a lot due to breakage, since the hair will be brittle and unprotected. Is there anything I can put on my scalp or hair (ie aloe vera) to strengthen it right from day one? :)

    aloe is awesome
iuse knottyboy shampoo..& then if u want use aloe gel, which will also help hold sections together without the mess of wax

you could use rubberbands if you wanted, but the sections would be less organic, and your would have to readjust. That's why mine had to do.

If you want a cheaper residue free shampoo, use Dr. Bronner's liquid soap. Some natural food places sell it in bulk and it's usually less than 5 American Dollars for about an 8 oz bottle. Use tea tree oil for any itchies and use aloe vera to prevent breakage...

Breakage will happen regardless, however...so don't fret too much.

Bulk liquid costs so much less! I'm lucky enough to work at a place that sells Dr. Bronner's in bulk...and it's a LOT cheaper than buying it individual bottles.
