just make an educated guess, ok now i think about it maybe not me coz i havnt been here for a while.
you might try and guess what jam (jelly for the yanks) i prefer, strawberry or raspberry.

or what kind of music is in my cd player

or how i like my eggs in the morning/afternoon

what genre of book i am currantly reading

    my two fave colours

    my most commonly used emoticon

    how i like my tea/coffee

whether i use a roach or a filter or go farmer style when i roll my cigarettes

how long ago,how many people were involved in my last sexual encounter

the point of this is to get to know people better, as i realised that ,as you dont have to move, people dont spend quality time with one another enough, people jumpin about all over the place saying two or three things then buggering off somewhere else to make meaningless chitchat with other impatiant and fickle louts sitting infront of a screen pretending that they are popular

you can get to know a lot about a personality, but you miss alot when you don't hear how the person speaks, how they move, their overall vibe

There can be a lot of misinterpretations online

I dont think that any of those question help you get to know anyone better. They are just data. They help you know more about a person, but not better. Personally, I believe the chit chat says a lot more, just the way a person reacts to a random comment and what they say. It doesnt matter how meaningless.

Autentique's on it. even if you had all the facts of someone's life, you wouldn't know much about how that someone was as a person.

my guess would be almost absolutely not at all. most of the furry's i've met, that i met first on line, turned out to be a very pleasant exception. so called hippies, when i was living at bed spring acres and other times in my life, are really just all over the board just as diverse as everyone else.

so i still maintian its a complete roll of the dice how much anyone in real life resembles how they act on line.

i think there are a lot of good people on here, in whatever sense there is such a thing, which i don't really believe there is such a thing as BEING good or bad, only in the degree to which a person prioritises the avoidance of causing suffering or fails to. but i do believe a lot of people on here, as with people everywhere, are, given the opportunity, reasonably good hearted.

but that doesn't mean anyone can be counted upon, whatever their intentions, to not make life difficult for anyone else.

i've also met a few people from online with whome i shaire more tangable and mechanical intrests, and my conclusion there is pretty thoroughly neutral as well.

From my perspective you tend to get a lot from a person online.

Not everything. I'm kinda pensive in real life, and I don't think that comes off much here.

I'm not as elloquent most of the time, because I try and fit in.

But that's not really saying anything about me I think. Just to what I adapt to. I assume the sames true with most people.

There are a few snakes though I think.

i get a vibe off a person, through their language, their attitudes, their opinions. my mental image of a person, based on how they interact with others, tends to be pretty good. but there's no perfection in getting to know a person in ANY interaction. i'm still finding things out about my friends and family that i would never have expected. people change, people grow, sometimes they backslide, whatever.

but i imagine lode likes his eggs scrambled with some salsa and orange juice on the side.

I think I'm fairly different in real life. I come off as a pretentious wacko-girl who is outwardly stubborn and abrasive online when I'm not making stupid comments and boasting about my own advice.

Yeah, I'm actually very easy to get along with in real life.

For that reason, I find it hard to really dissect a person's flair and character based on online posts made. I've met people in real life from knowing them online (none from this forum so far) and have had differing views of the person I know from the person online.

I sort of take on a role or a character I think when I make posts. There is a sense of disconnect that exists where I can say what I want and feel no remorse for saying what I want online. I sort of take on a distant and/or reserved personality online a bit when I'm not being silly because it's more of a challenge to come across to people as being serious online. Yeppers.

i'm not all that different. except i'm smaller and girlier than people would expect. however, my external appearance has never been a good representative of my personality. people always assumed i was stupid, dippy, shallow, etc., because of my voice and smile. if anything, i'm more myself here, than most people give me credit for.

I think that you can tell a whole lot about a person's character from their posts... a whole lot if you've been reading their posts for a while. You can distinguish doubts, latent insecurities, passions, and everything in between.

A person's vibe in real life and just the chemistry of interaction is very important too, and it's hard to determine something like that from text.

you can make an educated guess on someone's personality based on what they say online, but there's no real way to verify whether you are right or if they are just playing a character... thus i make guesses about everyone but generally assume that i'm wrong...

so what do southerners call jam then?

I guess we are free to imagine a lot about a person from what that person writes on a forum. The text can be read in any tone and one can imagine various expressions and gestures... but of course that person can be very different in real life.

....Who I am on here is who I am in real life......

I love conversing with people over the internet.

It's almost like you're reading a book. You get to imagine everything in your head. What the person's voice sounds like, the color of the carpet in their living room... all that stuff. It's kind of cool. Especially when they don't have any pics posted. I like the mystery of it all.
