I'm in a bit of an interesting predicament. For starters, I'm a Christian (the kind that believe in naturopathy and premarital sex...not the scary ones that hate gays and abortions) and my wife is Wiccan. We get along really well despite the difference of religion, and we both support each other's spiritual growth. My wife's birthday is coming up (December 14th) and her coven has this tradition of throwing a special birthday ritual at the new moon closest to their members' birthday. Because I'm pretty much a wuss, I volunteered to write the ritual for my wife's birthday celebration. The advice I've gotten from members of her coven is relatively minimal, and despite the fact I'm writing and participating in their ritual, I can't see past rituals because I'm not a member of their coven. I've tried looking on the Internet for some help on how to write a Wiccan ritual, but I don't know what's good advice and what isn't. I've never participated in something like this, so I'm lacking the insider perspective which isn't really available on the web. Does anyone have any hints or advice? I want to make this a really special celebration for her, but I'm just at a loss of where to start. Thanks!
Look up some of Doreen Valiente's poems. A lot of Wiccans base their rituals on them. Or you could just concentrate on the "meat" of the ritual, and let the coven call the quarters etc. the way they normally do. Maybe have some sort of presentation of important stuff that's happened in the last year for you two.. I dunno, I'm just throwing out ideas.
I ended up getting some help from two of the coven members. I think it's going to work out really well. We did actually use some Valiente stuff and high priestess think it's going to work well. Thanks!
Planning a ritual is not really a good idea. The only planinng part would be to study the astronomical situation, the weather and the place to go eventually. From there on its a dive in the world of natur and spirits. You first go to an interesting place and open your senses and your mind. Then its about percieving the signals that are given to you by the spirits and working with them, in respecting also their time and way to go. No planning is possible any more from this point on...Spirits dont like plans. -peace- seby
