How to tell if someone likes you, likes you?

I have a question for all the members of the opposite sex. What are the non-verbal or verbal cues that girls give guys when they like someone? I canÕt figure this out to save my life! Sometimes I think a girl is giveÕn me the Big Eye, I ask for the digits, and get shot down. Then other times a girl really digs me, and I have no idea.

When I think I might like someone I'll ask questions about what they do for fun, what music they are into, stuff like that. This helps me figure out if we have similar interests and if he sounds like an all-around nice guy or askes questions about me back. If I've heard his answers and really like him, I'll probably go out of my way to talk to him a little bit more or invite him somewhere with a group of friends. I'd probably joke and make fun of him in a flirty sort of way, too.

But I'm not every girl. A lot of people play hard to get - but I don't do that because unless you KNOW the guy is into you, and you KNOW he has some idea that you like him back, it really doesn't work.

what about phone calls? for instance , if i've just met a girl and get her phone number , then call the following week and have what seens to be a good phone conversation with the making of plans for that sat night (Tuesday being the day of the call). however, i tell her that i will call her on Thursday night to arrange the details (pick up, time , place etc) Then on Thursday i leave a message, with phone number, to call at. Sat. comes with no call! Do i call back assuming the something happened, or is this a hint to take a hike? I haven't called, this was over a week ago.
