I am curious about how the synth would work because the normal route deals with thionyl chloride and demethylation which a low-life junkie can't get and doesn't have the knowledge to perform.
Hence why some people in Russia outsource their synthesizing to somebody more knowledgeable on the subject. This is also why some narsty by-products end up in people's Krocodile because they simply couldn't care or have the knowledge on how to come out with a more pure product. Scary the lengths these people will go for a "good time" that leads to limbs falling off.
Here's a link to a paper studying the synthesis: http://static-content.springer.com/lookinside/art%3A10.1007%2Fs00706-011-0635-y/001.png (I would post the picture directly, but it's a bit big - look at the bottom for your synthesis). Anyway, they report a 38% yield in this synthesis. And that is using lab-grade equipment, catalysts and conditions such as the Platinum-catalyst based reduction between products 5 & 6. I don't know how hard catalysts are to get, but 4bar pressure would be hard enough to reach safely. Although there seems to be some way to work the synthesis with column-chromatography as well (discussed in the paper) it is another expensive/complex option. I think any way you look at it you're bound to have a hard time or get a very dirty product at the end. You could also probably go a long way by simply cleaning up the end-products produced by most illicit desomorphine synthesis. It doesn't seem like most people make much effort to clean the final product. However you would, once again, have a very hard time separating your desomorphine out if you had a very dirty mix.
The synth described in your link is very different from what I read. I read that desomorphine is made using RP, HCl and iodine and of course, codeine. It seems like they would actually boil those ingredients in a pot and inject the resulting waste.
