Having followed many threads and integrating the info into the smoke-filled chamber called my brain, I cannot yet see a clear answer to the question: "How many LUMENS should I run, using fluorescents, for successfully vegging 6 or 8 plants started as sprouts in soil in 4G pots?" They occupy a floor area of 4x4 ft. I know you guys out there have the answer. Hoping to purchase that EzHydrolite and doing it with that set-up alone but don't know if th 8000 Lumens would be enough. Thanx for the continued help. b1

-My mom, clone and veg aria witch takes up about a 3' x 5' space uses a li'l under 500 watts of mh and flouros combined. -Im not sure of the lumens tho. -I got a 175 watt mh with the rest of the light supplied by flouro tubes. -But I think that if I was gonna veg me a plant to just straight up flower I think Id prolly like to veg it a bit stronger, like mabey with a 400 watt mh or somethin. -Then mabey hit it with a 600 watt hps for flower.

Remember Pot Fans, you can delay flowering as much as possible by giving your plants 14-16 hours of light a day, this not only causes the plant to grow larger with vegitation.. but this prolongs flowering..... once your plant is as big as you want it, and strong enough to start flowering, cut back to 12 hours of light... less light, forces flowering.. more light.. forces vegitation

Here I am myself bringing the answers to my questions about LIGHTING. Found this website called www.greenmanspage.com and it has a wealth of information that would give near any question a complete and comprehensive answer oncluding great graphics, tables and summaries and what not. This is the link to their page about lighting and it told all! Have to get used seeing various measurement systems used but they give you enough data to reference it if you read thru it patiently. I loved it. http://greenmanspage.com/guides/lighting.html And then I found this other site where this guy Jason King's book The Cannanabible had been quoted as the source. And it helped me understand at a deeper level what all of us are trying to do: growing plants producing the highest quality product we trichomes, right? and the following link will lead you thru a trip of what it takes, from the plant's point of view, to produce that stuff. http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/2159.html
So much of that for now. Thanks for steering me to do resaerch, MeanGreen.

People would be amazed at the info out there if they just took 5 seconds and typed "growing marijuana " into a google search or ant of the many search engines available.Glad to hear ya came across some decent resources b1v2w3.Seems unlogical to not research new endeavors prior to jumping into which generally leads to failure which detours any future attempts from being made can only be blamed on ones self.

I have 375 watts for flowering in a 4x2x5 grow area, that's a little over 50 watts psi. My grow cabinet is actually 4x2x6, but the top 12 inches of the cabinet are for the shelf that holds my ballast and powerstrips for my lights.

AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, is basicaly what ive been told. but obviously not too much, or it'll hurt your plant. Use your judgement.

Hey Budfarmer, looks like you got a spurt of activity going on this forum. Great link you posted her! The light types, calculations and other considerations are somewhat easier than the one I posted. Thanx. b1

Sorry to dig up old threads but is that considered the general rule of thumb?

Yes, but only if you're talking about HPS.
Flo's emit far less lumens per watt than HPS. If you're using flo's use the formula of 6,000 lumens (or more) per sq/ft.
