As I mentioned in another thread, I just got a prescription for Menthadol and Dilaudid. Am assuming that NONE of it is as good as Oxy and my doctor is resistant so far to prescribe it, however, he may if the above do not work. What I can tell you though is from everwhere I have called, Oxy is expensive, period, so not sure I could afford it anyway. My past and what seems to work for pain: 40-60mg of Hydrocodone, plus 2-3 IR morhine, it just does yet THIS pain doc doesn't prescribe anything that works like the compounds (each 15mg) does. Have tried: MS Contin, 30mg x 3, Kadian 100mg/30mg combined (as per his directions), MS IR 30mg x 2-3, per his directions, and now have a prescription for the diladud (Hydromorphone) and methadol. 8mg and 30mg about 200+ pills of each. The IR MS seemed to work okay, but nothing approaches the quickness of the HYDROCODONE and for me, none of them have the same 20 minute window then work for a few hours. On the other hand, brother in law that has a few vicodin (50+) took one of my 30mg in half (15mg) and he said one pill worked for two days. So it works for some people. Lastly, for now, when I picked up my Hydro (15mg x 120), I showed the pharmasist my new prescription, they are very cool as they work with a hospital, cancer, et-cetera and not like the nazi's of Rite Aid where they paniced when I showed them the MS cotin which I never filled there. Anyway she said the Dialdud and Methadol were stronger than the MS series of meds and said it should work. Problem is, on the Hydro I feel like I can work and so far, all the MS (SR or IR) cause me to be tired. If it doesn;t work, not sure what I will do as even if I get he Oxy, it seems that its too expensive for me to purchase anyway. Thanks for advice.
My father has sum pretty serious pain problems and the doctor only gives him 4mg hydromorphones and that seems to do pretty good for him, so those should work for you if hydrocodone worked the only reason they switched him off the hydro's is cause he had liver problems and the acetominophen was bad for the liver. And you should b able to work pretty well on them since when you take them by mouth they don't seem to really get u high or anything, like hydro's or oxys would. Price wise i couldn't tell u if your getting them at the pharmacy, but i don't see why ur insurance wouldn't cover them.
Interesting though, I read that the reason people like the HYDRO is due to the agent being converted to hydromorphone in the liver. Hoping that the dialid or methadol works and removes the desire for the hyrdro's - I can't afford the OXY even if I could get them which I could I assume if I press him hard enough. Just to expensive. Not sure how much this current prescription will cost either.
Im a pharmacy tech, so this is knowledge straight from the pharm. OC is expensive. Once a lady came in getting 90 OC 60mgs no insurance. Price was 800 something. She came back 20 minutes later for it and paid in brand new 50 dollar bills. Anyway, I can look up how much ANY pill costs without insurance. With insurance, I cant help you. I can only tell the price with insurance if I am given a script and can bill it to your insurance. If you want to know how much something cost let me know. I can give brand/generic costs. Please include; name, strength, and quantity. Since your calling pharms though, I guess you could disregard this. Just putting it out there for anyone =). All the MS are morpine. Dilaudid, as said hydromorphone, is about 2x stronger than morphine. Hydrocodone is converted to hydromorphone in the liver. I think someone taking hydromorphone is less likely to become addicted then if taking morphine aswell. So if hydrocodone worked well for you, the morphone should too. Infact, the morphone will act quicker than the hydrocodone. Unfortunately, I dont care much about methadone so my knowledge of it is modest. Good luck with your pain therapy.
