I tipped two, which was 20 percent w/o the delivery fee, but now I am wondering if she or Pizza Factory gets the delivery fee and feel like a lousy tipper if she doesn't get it.

You can get someone ELSE to make the pizza and deliver it???

And you have to tip them?

Geez, I've been doing it the hard way all these years and not tipping myself...

delivery fee is put in place to pay for gas, but of course with ever changing gas costs this is not an exact science. if it is $3 or less, it shouldnt be taken into consideration when determining the tip.

i generally give roughly 20%, but round up to the next dollar. if the delivery fee is more than 3 bucks, i give roughly 20% of the list price rather than 20% of the total price.

when i was delivering pizzas, though, i would be content with just a couple bucks unless it was a particularly large order. i would be thrilled with a 5 dollar tip if it was under 25 bucks before the tip. the delivery fee for the place where i worked was 1 dollar when i started, 1.50 when i quit.

if there is a delivery fee, then they are not getting no extra money

free delivery usually gets them $2-4

god I feel sucky ): . My husband's always on me because I still tip 20 percent for lousy service, but the way NV works the waittresses lose money if they don't get a tip.
I just never know with delivery ): and then put the fee in there and really confuze me.

this is a good price. if she doesnt get the money herself, which isnt likely, then it will be divided among the staff. in most cases the store has computers keep track of how much the workers owe for the food delivered, and at the end of the night they turn in what they owe. anything left over is tip money. technically they are supposed to report tips so they can pay income tax on them. most places the people will either report that they received no tips, or that the tips they received were far lower than they actually received. since this isn't trackable, they can simply say they got no tips to avoid paying taxes on it.

if a store is strict about reporting tips, the worker can simply stash excess bills in their car so there is no pocketed evidence of making extra money. in restaurants and such its not a given that the server is the one earning the entire tip you give, but with delivery is almost always the case.

Seriously? ): I fell so bad. I was was just unsure because my order was so small and then I would have had to call in with my check-card because I haven't had a chance to get cash out (no bank in town).
argh...husbands aren't allowed to go on work trips any more.

when i delivered i made slightly over minimum wage. i did not expect tips, but they're nice, and i did depend on them for nearly half of my income.

all things considered, i made about 13 bucks an hour at a shop with slow-medium business compared to places like pizza hut or dominos (it was a small, local chain)

older drivers should be tipped more generously. its more likely their main means of making a living, and it must be remembered that delivering pizzas is very bad for a car. TONS of stop and go driving, etc. a lot of money is needed for repairs and maintenance if it is a long-term occupation. while they may make well over minimum wage after tips, much of that is going to gas and maintenance.

afaik, no drivers are paid in the manner of wait staff. i think it is illegal to pay them less than normal minimum wage.

I've never heard of a pizza delivery service that makes drivers pay for gas out of their tips.

    That sounds like a rip-off.

They should really form a union......

some do, some dont. the places with free delivery do. delivery fees are made to either alleviate the cost of gas or to eliminate them and garauntee a tip of at least a few cents.
