Three people found dead in home near Rochester

GATES, N.Y. -- A man stabbed his wife to death during a domestic dispute then lined up his children, fatally stabbing one and seriously wounding another, police said.

Steven Ryder, 46, and his 32-year-old wife, Louise, quarreled Sunday night after she requested a ride to work, according to police. He shouted "You're a Lucifer!" and she yelled back, "No, you're a Lucifer!"

Louise Ryder then tried to run away but was attacked with a knife as she fled, said Gates Police Chief Thomas Roche.

During the attack, the couple's children were able to flee outside, but they were ordered by their father to return to the house, Roche said. Steven Ryder then lined his children up, and attacked his 12-year-old daughter Theresa and his 13-year-old son, who was later found by police laying in the basement.

Theresa Ryder died from her wounds, police said. The son, Steven Ryder Jr., was in serious condition at a local hospital.

Two of the Ryder's four children escaped the home without injury. One of the children ran to a nearby home and reported to a neighbor what happened.

Members of Monroe County's SWAT team entered the home and found Steven Ryder dead from apparent self-inflicted stab wounds, according to the Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester.

Outside the Ryder's neat suburban home Monday, a bath towel lay on the pavement and a large stain spotted the end of the driveway, where a pool of blood had been hosed away.

In front of the white-sided red-trimmed home, a black basketball sat on a freshly mowed lawn, some 30-feet away from a freestanding basketball hoop.

"It was a really ugly scene," said Roche. "Had the kids not revolted, I think he would have done them all."

God, I am so glad that there is almost no crime at all around here. In the two years I've lived here, only one person has been murdered (some kid killed his mother).

I can't stand how horrible people are sometimes.

That really is fucked up. It's ok though, cuz guys like that usually don't even make it til their sentence is served. Some of the guys in prisons might be major fucking criminals, but none of them can stand monsters like that either.

I guess when you take a fragile mind, and add the pressure of modern life, some people just snap. Terrible. Sometimes i thinks it better to shy away from these stories, except that they are morbidly fascinating.

there is a dam near here where they have found many infants bodies, probably at least 10 that I've heard about over the years, it's so strange to me, not only doing that to a baby when all you have to do is drop it off at the hospital or a police station and they will take it no questions asked, but also-how the hell do they hide their pregnancy from everyone!?

I was born and raised in an area where not alot of murders were heard of. There were more people that killed themselves than actual homicides.
