I can appreciate the benefits of going bare foot - feels great for the feet but, as a naturist, i prefer the same feeling all over (but can't do it in so many places). Are barefooters making the first step (ugh!) to becoming naturists? Is there a link between the two?

Strange thing about some naturists (including me) is that if they leave any clothes on then its usually on the feet! LOL

We already had that topic (naturists leaving shoes on) in this thread:
Nudists wearing shoes and socks? in the Nudism/Naturism sub-forum...
I wouldn't know about a figure or percentage of barefooters being naturists, too (or vice-versa, naturists being barefooters), but on a personal level I can say:

I am a barefooter and a naturist, and the latter means: barefoot all over.
So, including yourself, that makes at least two in this thread (by now).

    Wiggling naturist toes,

Absolutely. when I belonged to nudist clubs i'd invariably get stares and comments from other nudists "Gasp! You're barefoot?!" As they stand there a'dangling, in their black thigh socks and shoes...

A shod naturist: what a bizarre image!

I'd say that both are "natural" and the proclivity is likely there in most barefooters, myself included.

For me i can consider a relation between going barefoot and going naked. Both are pretty sensous expriences. Feeeling the different grounds beneath your soles, or feeling sun and sea breeze caressing your bare skin. hmmm...

But i know that there are naturism friends who can't imagine to go barefoot off the beach, and that there are barefooters who's worst nightmare is to be seen nude. So - i guess there is no inevitable connection between, probably it depends on personal attitudes and experiences.

Sometimes it's easier to persuade someone to come along to the nudist beach than to make the way there in bare feet ;-)

I'm with you, pixy: the less I wear, the better I feel (weather permitting, of course). Nothing beats going naked, but going barefoot is a great start. Whenever I see nudists wearing sandals or sneakers, I wonder, "Why?"

Sometimes i ask. Usually the answers are not different from those of non-nudies:
    - it hurts me
    - i can't stand it
    - ground too hot
    - feet get dirty
    - it's too dangerous
    - my feet are so irritabel
    etc.

I guess some poeple will never discover all chances live gives. Sad but a fact.

My friend prefers to wear flipflops even when we are at a naturist camping. Candy-ass ;-) but i love him though ...

I'm both and always have been. I dont understant why some nudists go out of their way to have shoes on. Bare to nature is the only way to live.

i'm a naturist and a barefooter. i have never understood naturists who wear shoes while nude. i always found it a bit odd that those who enjoy the freedom of nudity feeling a need to be shod. the really weird thing is those who wear shoes use the same arguements as shoddies. i always find it amusing to hear these arguements coming from naturists.

I started the thread Nudists wearing shoes and socks? and it seems I upset a few people, It still seems bizarre to me but the message coming back to me seemed to be Live & let Live!

Naturism is all good and well, but it's not for me personally. I am way too shy with my fat body to even think about it. Also, I'm not sure if I want to risk sunburn on the pasty white areas under my clothes. Sometimes, though, I want to go shirtless, and at times I do it but really feel awkward doing so.

As for naturists wearing shoes, I really don't understand it. Sure, I could see some not wanting to toughen up their soles, but it couldn't be harder than toughening up their skin to temperature extremes and bug bites (if lying in the grass).
