For those that have made it to the mature stage of the journey. How long did it take to get 95 - 100 percent locked up?

Hmm, mine are at 6 months but I wouldn't say they are completely locked up. Maybe 70 percent or so...Mine are real thin though....

Mine are 3 n a half months old

id say around 45-55% locked up.
I have to keep redoing some every now and then.

I have over 75 dreadlocks, so there pretty small which takes longer to lock up.

Yeah, I'm sure I'm over 75 easily myself. They are taking longer than previous times I've had thicker dreadlocks...I've heard a year to a year and a half is how long it takes for dreads to fully lock - which is interesting that this thread is saying otherwise for just about everyone.

It's so gradual it's hard to tell. You look at them everyday and think "hmm, nothing changed" and then one day you realise you have dreadlocks. Best not to worry about it.

^^ Yes I don't believe mine were fully locked until well over a year. It's different for everyone though.

I am at 14 months and locks I have are definitely tight and mature. But I still don't see them as matured dreadlocks. I would say that happens around year 2 or 3. But then again, what is matured. Some people take that different. I first realized I finally had dreads at 8 months. I still have lots of loose hair underneath all the dreads, which I like. I am at the point where I don't think about the maturity as much as I just watch the length.

im at 25 months and they are still not completely locked. the ends are loose and in the process of looping and rounding. so about 80% locked i would say. plus i have a shit ton of loose hair.

I'm at 8 1/2 months now. Aside from some loose bunches of hair that haven't yet found their rightful dreads and some loose ends, my locks are pretty well locked. They didn't get any sort of locked substance until around 7 months, but I'm actually fairly surprised at how well they are doing.

i guess the first factor that you have to consider is the method by which the locks were started. backcombing may make them lock up a lot at first but it comes loose, and tightens, and gets loose again, and tightens. i can't really speak for the natural method, but my 12 inch locks are locked pretty tight at the roots for about 3-4 inches, then it's just loose hair. i backcombed almost 4 months ago.

took about 2/2.5 years. I considered them fully locked when they stopped shrinking quicker than they grew. Took a long time :-/
