I have asked some people before that doubt I would like it. I am sick of where I am and want a huge change of atmosphere and people. What do I need to do to gain citizenship there? I hear one way is to join the German military.

Not easy to answer within one posting. You come over, look around, have to get a permission to stay, a permission to work and after living a few years here you can ask for citizenship, getting this all is much easier for people coming from the northern hemisphere than coming from the so called 3rd World. Military is only interested on you after getting citizenship, not being to old and after passing a medical examination. If you fit in this categories and you don't want to join military you can write a simple postcard and you have to do social work for the same period of time like the compulsory military service, afaik 15 month at the moment.

When I lived in New York I was longing for "Good Ol' Germany".
Since I'm back in Germany I'm longing for the US.
I'm sure: if/when I'll be back in the US I'll be longing for Germany again.

    The grass ain't greener,
    the wine ain't sweeter,
    either side of the hill.

Don't forget to smell the roses flowering in the neighbourhood you're living right now. In case you come to Germany you're welcome - but please: not as military stuff.

And note: in Germany we don't use guns to kill each other - we use (gear shifted) cars driving 150 mph on the Autobahn.

Peace - on either side of the Atlantic.

I´ve found some places where I´ve been happy. and I found out that being happy is not caused by the place, it´s me who is happy. and as far as I know you can be happy quite everywhere if there is some happiness inside YOU.

I think you have a good point there.
We all dream of leaving our country and go abroad, regardless of where we live.
Then we miss our home country.
And still... I'd love to get to visit Germany once... at least once...

I can honestly say I have lived here for more than 7 months and I do not miss much from the states. I miss my mom, dad, sister, grandparents, turtle and WAFFLE HOUSE. Oh,and I miss my tattoo artist. Other than that I love it here......... My kids are happy here and our landlords became our best friends. I am not looking forward to moving back to the states any time soon.

You will only know whether you will like a country, but going there and experiencing it for yourself.

Some German words are so long that they have a perspective. Freundschaftsbezeigungen. Dilettantenaufdringlichkeiten. Stadtverordnetenversammlungen.
