There's one of these freak show fat person programmes on and they're going on about how, being poor, they could only afford fast food. I seem to hear this all the time from TV and I don't get it. There's no way I could fill up on fast food every week as cheaply as I can just go buy a load of fresh veg and make stir frys or pasta sauces. I'm always amazed at how much veg I can get for a fiver. So where are these obese people eating that's so cheap?
I dont think so... I made pork steak 1.90 for 2/ and fried potatos 5lb ? $3.00.. 20min it took me, Cost me almost nothing.. oh and canned corn. .25 cent Mcdonalds meals do not digest if your gorged on them it wouldnt be expensive, but you would just gain weight get blocked up and explode... ok, I made up the Explode part..
When you say: Fast food. Do you mean just food from FF Restaurants? If so, then it certainly would seem, like for like, it would be cheaper, if you factor in the meat.
I think fast food is more about convenience that being cheap. It can be very affordable, it's easy to get and it's everywhere. It requires a minimun effort on the consumer. People are lazy. Because of work I've been having to eat at the mall a lot (our fridge broke). It's quite a sad experience. There's this one place that makes some good healthier pizzas and in Starbucks I sometimes get the fresh cut veggies with the pesto dip. But none of that is cheap. Now there's a Mcdonald's, DQ, Boardwalk Fries and other things I dont even get near to that are probably cheaper.
When you factor in the truck load of salt per portion you could clear up ice for a small city off a double cheese burger.
I happen to love chicken patties and lettuce on a bun, I dont like most fast food places. Buying the patties, buns, lettuce myself. Put the bun in the toaster, let the patties get cold, lettuce wilted and you dont even know the difference.. I make my own reese cups too... SRSLY. I dont give money to other ppl to cook my food unless I have to.. If every single fast food resturaunt closed i wouldnt even know.. nor would I care.
Where I live, it is way fucking cheaper to go to a fastfood restaurant than to make your own meal. I'll just say a dozen eggs can run you $6, a loaf a bread as well, and upwards of $9 for a gallon of milk. These are basic items. Fast food, well, the prices are similar to the mainland. Of course, where I'm living there isn't a whole lotta fast food joints.
Whoever says that doesn't eat at Dairy Queen. Fucking $5.69 for a goddamned Deluxe Nacho. I work there and yes, I am bitching about the prices. They can kiss my ass, they're going to end up costing me my job by charging people steak house prices. We are NOT steak house quality.
Theres a vending machine I get stuff from and the food there is better than fast food.. You have to nuke it but its made fresh everyday from some vendor.. Chicken samich is $1.50 and it kicks ass. but its fucked up cause they fill it like its a menu and what was there today will not be there tomorrow. The hot sasuage is the best and $1.75. There is bar down the ways sells hot sasuage the same exact size $4.50 yikkes..
fast food is so much cheaper compared to cooking. Sometimes i really wished I liked it... The only thing I really like is Sonic's grilled cheese mmmmmmmm......
I don't know about cheap. But I think it's already done and very conveniently packed. You can eat it anywhere you are and then continue on your day.
I'm still waiting for an organic fast food restaurant, complete with a drive thru, clown and meals with toys.
I agree it's about convenience. I usually eat at work, and my choices are limited. We don't have a microwave, so unless I bring something cold my cheap choice is the deli. I can eat for $2-$3 but 85% of the time they serve fried chicken, french fries, fried okra, fried fish, etc. They're killing me, but I can't always afford subway.
lol, I know, right? I eat for free at Dairy Queen because I'm a manager and our salads are beyond disgusting past truck day (that salad mix does not keep), and the grilled chicken is sooo bland, so I always end up eating a burger or fried chicken or a Dude (chicken fried steak sandwich...it's like deep-frying a breaded hamburger, lol). I don't eat much, usually 2 pieces of chicken, toast, half of a kids' fries and gravy, but each day I feel a little closer to a heart attack. I rarely indulge in the ice cream these days. though, lol.
I do prefer to eat at home. Mostly cause I don't like people touching my food and I don't mind cooking. When I go to work, I usually pack my lunch. Snack pak, tuna sandwich, bbq lays, cut up carrots, water, capri sun
fast food isn't really all that convenient anymore either... i average about 10-15 minutes in the drive through at taco bell lately; it takes me half as long to microwave something that costs me 1/4 as much.
