How important is freedom of expression?

It seems a lot of people don't agree with the principle of freedom of expression. To me, it's very important people should be able to say what they like ... it's only when it becomes incitement to murder etc. that a line is crossed. So is free speech important to you?

they go hand in hand...you cant have one without the other...and no matter what anyone says and makes law about as far as your creative boundries go...there will always be this underground waiting to create the imaginative upheaval...its inescapable...

 

your freedom of expression in no way shape or form trumps my right to go about my business in life. go ahead and spout off whatever you want, protest whatever you want. just don't think for one second your right to do so carries over into me having to listen to, pay attention to, or even acknowledge you.

Yes in fact freedom of Speech or expression is important to me.

However in toady's world it is a myth. It does not really exist in the USA or any other country.

Don't believe me...try demonstrating at a nuclear power plant. You will be arrested.

Go to Washington DC and up to the capital, then find you senator and at the top of your voice tell him what a slime ball he is. Use some descriptive swear words in your opinion. You will be arrested.

Go to city hall and tell the fucks there that you think they are a bunch of worthless bastards. See how fast you get arrested.

Publicly slander someone and see how fast you get arrested, slapped with a restraining order and sued.

Freedom of expression does not exist.

Also if it does exist in limited forms...Which it doesnt...Freedom of speech does not give you the right to be heard.

That right is for the powerful corporations with billions of dollars and an agenda to push.

 

I know it doesn't exist. I'm sad so few people stand up for it. Not many people seem to realise that by not standing up for this principle, THEY will suffer in the end.

 

I don't think freedom of expression is all that inhibited. I understand that the examples Unknown American gave are real and practical. However I would propose that most of us that scream for our voices to be heard are not really saying anything at all. It is mostly just noise.
