i have been writing words on here such as "favorite" rather than "favourite" which is how i am accustomed to. i live in america, however i have spent most of my life in europe and when my father taught me how to read an write i spelled "color" as "colour." i have not written like that on here because i did not want to seem disrespectful, however, my brain is actually in pain because i feel i am misspelling. would i be disrespectful if i wrote i how i am accustomed?

Of course its not disrespectful! Type however you wish...Sometimes I type in my silly accent:p

I have to admit the American spelling does look very odd to me, but Im hardly offended or anything! If anyone in the more American areas of the board told me not to type standard English English Id be seriously pissed off (minus "off"?)

Im sure everyone feels the same, unless theyre pretty easily disturbed

    So go for it:cheers2:

Or do you mean you usually type "our" way?:p If so, same applies!

i meant your way. when i was little and learning how to write i wrote "colour" "favourite" "labour" "advise" and it makes more sense to me.

American and other variations on standard English are not wrong, they're just different. On the internet I think everyone knows about such differences and they're not very important, but some of them are quite interesting. For instance "gotten" is still in common use by Americans but it fell out of favour in the UK a couple of hundred years ago, meaning its current use in the US is a throwback from the first English speaking settlers...

here is a pie chart of the linguistic ancestry of English which you might find interesting
