This is a thread for listing the ways that the United states has methodically fucked over the Iraqi people in the past and present (maybe even future, although that's harder to cite) Please cite your sources, and please make sure they are reliable.
How about How has the U.S and everybody else involved effected Iraq.. I guess this would be a little bit less of what people like to think around here..but for crying out loud... be positive [its xmas ] you don't need a seperate thread about this Eugene.. near enough EVERY thread seems to 'bang on' about how the U.S has fucked the Iraqis over.. have you not noticed
Killing more than 100,000 Iraqis (old figures, probably much higher at the present date). http://www.google.com/search?hl=no&q=100%2C00+civilian+iraq&lr=
Destroying Iraq's heritage. The United States destroyed much of Iraq's cultural heritage (see babylon). Apparently, Al Jazeera is experiencing problems. I suppose they will fix the problem soon. All I can get for now: Aljazeera.Net - US-led troops destroy Iraq's heritage [size=-1]US-led troops destroy Iraq's heritage. Sunday 01 August 2004, 19:18 Makka Time, 16:18 GMT. I was thinking more along the lines of how the U.S. said they'd support the Shi'a if they rose up against saddam, and then didn't. Or about how after we learned that saddam was gassing the Iranians and Kurds (in direct violation of international law) we strengthened relationships with their g'vt.
1. Rumsfeld supplying the Saddam government with chemical and other weapons so he could commit genocide and other crimes against humanity. America always backs strong dictators who sing their tune, regardless of the loss of human life. Remember Chile? Allende? We forget too soon, and young men go to fight not understanding how they are just repeating the mistakes and abuses of the past. 2. Ignoring Iraq's priceless cultural heritage by not securing museums and other important sites immediately following the invasion. They were only interested in securing strategic sites like oil facilities. 3. Not spending all the monies set aside for fixing Iraq's infrastructure, but instead diverting that to pay for ever more security for US forces and contractors, but not Iraqis themselves. I could go on, but this is Xmas, so I'll cut it here... Peace on Earth...
Although the destruction of the Iraqi Cultural heritage is probably a huge loss to archeologists, i don't think it really hurt the Iraqis in any real way. In fact, the looted artifacts prolly helped alot of people who would have no money otherwise. Also, it's kindof interesting that in the looting period we didn't protect any government ministry building except for the Oil ministry. Everywhere else was looted. Not just for stuff like air-conditioners and furniture, but also the wiring in the walls.
they were UN sanctions so Libya, New Zealand, China, Canada, and every other country was just as 'guilty' as America for them. Why wouldnt you blame Saddam Hussein for them though?
