How do you give a 'reputation' on here? And furthermore how do you recieve one? It's something of great interest to me which floats around my user control panel except I don't know how it works.
to add reputation you click on the scales below your avatar... it's if someone likes ya or something, no-one really takes any notice of it I don't think... someone gave me a negative one once, but i haven't worked out why
Your ability to give reputation is affected by a number of undisclosed factors. As far as I'm aware, there's no way to tell whether or not you're actually able to give reputation. It'll appear as though you've given it, regardless of whether you can or not. To the recipient, any received reputation will only appear as a grey dot if the giver is unable to dish it out. Frankly, the whole idea seems like a load of bollocks to me. Popularity is no measure of worth anyway, but added to that, there are one or two idiots who somehow have real high reps. There's also a few serial flirts who do quite well. There's also a flurry of "positive rep" threads where people just rep each other up for no reason other than the fact they can. Oh yeah, and it can be used as a means of anonymously insulting people.
Yeah that's happened to me a few times, last one I had was for an anti war thread I started in the America Attacks forum ... silly children
Fortunately, they're generally too stupid to disguise their identity. I can think of one individual who has a particularly distinctive writing style, which permeates his offensive rep comments as well. I take great pleasure in repping them right back and letting the morons know that I know who they are
I can find out who sent you bad karma if you like. Also, I think you have to have over 10 points yourself to give or subtract from someone else....
Nah I'd rather not know, if they wanted me to know who it was then they would have told me. Like I'm that bothered. I've dished a bit out as well, I just don't add any comments
Yeah, I think I understand it now. Today I got one from Showmet which read 'like this....mwahahaha!!!' in response to my original question (how does the reputation system work)
I also got 2 negative ones (I presume, if grey indicates negative) for posting in the 'favourite right wing nutter' and 'boycotting' threads. Don't know why or who sent them though. I imagine I got a negative for my posts in the boycotting thread because the company I used to work with is heavily resented my most of the other people who posted on that thread.

Yeah, Peace Phoenix, try and find out who sent me bad karma. Not that I intend to bad karma them back or start mouthing them off or anyting. I'm just curious. Cheers.
Takes 15 to have affect it, and at 50 you +/- 2 points, and another point every 50 points from there I believe...
I can see why you got a negative rep from the boycot thread..because you worked for the enemy . I think their is a 70% chance it was someone in that thread or someone just passing through. I am gonna go with someone passing through .. it was not me by the way i respect mcdonalds employees and managment structure. See i may get a few for that comment. Its best not to worry about it though people are fickle.
What I should point out though is I didn't like working for or with (however you look at it) McDonalds and I did try hard to find employment with smaller, and more 'ethical' or less capitalistic companies and it simply didn't pay off. There are few things more frustrating than trying very hard to find a job or career which ties in with your philosophies and principles only for it to come to nothing. I've learnt that fate can be a very cheating, cruel, harsh and unjust thing really, and it's in the field of jobs which I've been hit the hardest. That's not helped by the fact that the job oppurtunities in this town are very poor. Suppose you want to be a graphic designer, and at one stage I did want to become a graphic designer, but that kind of job opportunity only comes along about once every three years here! There are very very few people who share my philosophies and principles at it is, and whoever does, has no chance of remaining in the town and getting a job to match their personality. No chance. So in that case, you either get a job with/for a shitty fast food place, or you're out of work with virtually no income. It sucks, dude. If I had it my way, I'd be earning a living making music, or writing psychology or philosophy, or planting trees, or all of these things, but it simply isn't possible. The luck required for me to get that kind of work is absent and the template from which I can get that kind of work is sparse to say the least. I did consider moving away, but then, where exactly would I go? And how can I guarantee such a move would pay dividends? Especially given the nasty nature of one's fate which I've already illustrated? But I'm still trying, and my next step is an attempt to get into university and hopefully en route to a career which truly affects my character and my potential which has been so desperately absent within my proffesional life so far. I know I have to find a solution quickly or I'm for a very long and depressing time in the run up to my faraway retirement years. I hope this post hasn't been irritating. I had a fairly poor day back at work today after a wondorously fulfilling week off and I felt it necessary to have a rant about it and to try and least justify some of my employment placements because fate as very much deserted me in that department. I'm as disillusioned with the fat-cat machine as most of you, but what can you do when denied of what is right for you?
Well can't exactly say that where you live is a hick town but I found myself in the same situation as you. It pissed me off so much I through heads or tails on London and Birmingham and ended up in Birmingham. The work situation is not so desperate and I found the work I wanted within 2 weeks. Depends how tied you are to a particular place. If you are mobile then there are options. Anyway, don't despair. You could end up with 5 stars on your badge if you suck up to the boss.
Well Merlin .. you can't gaurantee it .. but you can try .. failure comes from failing to try not trying and failing, through my eyes anyway. If you want it get into the circuit and live amongst the kind of people who live a lifestyle you envisage and do the things you want to do ... there are lots of things to learn, and you will fuck up from time to time but you will be trying. YOu know that, Peace ....
