Now i know that most people when they want to meditate dont just sit down any old random place and meditate. What do you do before meditating to enhance your experience? I will have a little water, make my bed, light some insence, turn off my lights but turn on my lava lamp, stretch a little before meditating (i find this helps alot) and maybe put on some ambient/oriental music.
I usually meditate after I'm finished my yoga set for the day...but if I don't have time for yoga I just sit down anywhere and meditate.
just wanted to mention that you might not want to get into too much of a routine/preparation for meditation. what will happen when you want to meditate but you cant be in a "perfect" setting to do so? i mean, i´ll do something things beforehand sometimes, but it´s too easy to become attached to these things in order to have a good meditation. try meditating in a completely different place under a completely different situation and with your legs crossed the opposite way or something. all those differences may help to put you into THE MOMENT more because you´re paying more attention to everything around you becuase it´s different
I tend to just sit on my bed and go for it. Sometimes I light some incense and candles, maybe play some nature sounds music, but as Melvindoo's pointed out, it's not too good an idea to get into a routine, being spontaineous is often good.
i just do it. i don't do any kinds of preparation unless i feel like i have to to get into the mood. i agree that too much preparation can set you up for a really big downfall for when you aren't able to do the "perfect" preparation.
i listen to some relaxing record for a couple minutes down in the basement usually. dim the lights a little, and sit cross legged in the recliner. i usually put a blanket over my lower body because it's freezing down there.
I smoke a few bowls of marijuana. I really should clean up my room, that would probably enhance my meditation expierence too... that and the weed.
