How do you fix a broken tail light?

Discussion in 'Random Thoughts' started by neonspectraltoast, Oct 12, 2019.

  1. I just got pulled over, because I have a broken tail light. I don't know how to fix it. What do I do, go to Wal-Mart and look for a new light? Do I have to have the actual thing that covers the light? Because I don't have that, either. *sigh*

I YouTube it each time. It's a trick to dismantle the tail light so you can replace the bulb.

Go to a junk yard, tell them what you want and they will more than likely have it. No need to spend money on new stuff when you can find used that is just as good.

If the red plastic is busted find one at a junk yard, Remove the old one, install the new one. Add a new bulb from walmart and you are good to go.

I had to replace a headlight glass that had gone foggy and the bottom bolt that held it was right up against the bodywork at the front of the car with no possible access.
To remove the front panel, I needed to remove the bumper and after unclipping the trim, I noticed an extra small hole. Somewhat puzzled, I looked through the hole and discovered that their was also a hole in the front body panel. Looking deeper, I realized that it all lined up with the headlight fixing bolt.
Once I made that discovery, replacing the glass took about 10 minutes, rather than all day.
I think that manufacturers do it deliberately to force customers to take the car to their workshop. Fortunately I have the facilities and made a tool to reach and hang on to the bolt, but most people would not have been able to do the job without the manufacturers release tool which they do not sell.

This is missing a lot of information. Is your bulb out or is the taillight assembly damaged? Replacing a bulb means a few screws in most instances. Replacing a whole tail light involves more, depending on your make/model/year/trim level. Tell us about the vehicle and we can help.

  19. The whole cover for the lights is pretty much gone. So I guess I'm going to make due with some kind of red tape for now. (Geez, it sounds like I'm discussing politics. Quick, someone bring up Donald Trump.)

I was mostly just wondering about the bulbs. They just snap in and out. (That's not a problem...just describing how they work.) I was mostly wondering if all bulbs are the same I suppose I'll just stop at Wal-Mart tomorrow and see what they've got. Thanks for all the help anyway, guys and gals.

Don't ask Al Green. He doesn't even know how to mend a broken heart.
