How do you get when you're on your period? Or when you're going through PMS? And how do you relieve the symptoms? When I'm going to PMS (which is usually the entire week before I get my period) I am VERY irritable and impatient... like more than usual, haha. Then when I'm in the first days of my period I get horrible cramps and CRAVE chocolate and get really, really tired. Sometimes, I don't relieve the pain. Sometimes I'll take pain relievers but usually they don't help right away. I exercise also at times, which actually does relieve cramping. (Does anyone know if Yoga or anything like that helps as well?) Aaaaand as for the tiredness, well I just take care of that with a 4 hour nap or so. How about you? -dariah.
I've never gotten cramps but recently I've been struck with migranes and I always seem to get one right before my period. I'd rather have cramps though. I can get a little moody and I want to eat everything in sight. I think Yoga does help with cramps because I think I remember hearing that stretching is supposed to help cramps so......I'm going to get back into Yoga for my back because it's been giving me problems lately.
Birth control pills have really helped with the cramps and to lighten the flow, but I'm still an emotional wreck. It helps to exercise, eat enough healthy protein and fiber (i get so abormally irregular otherwise), have sex, and stay away from pretty girls. It's never a cure-all though. I still freak out.
I usually know its coming (just an odd instinct I guess) so I at least expect it a few days before. I only have cramps for about a day or two but as long as I have Advil I'm alright. I feel really weak sometimes and I sleep alot. I get really depressed the week before and I have the strangest urge to kill my brothers.
having an orgasm helps so much with cramps i still need to find a solution for pms, i don't really know when it's happeneing, cause all of a sudden i'm all pissed off for no reason but at the time i don't care to think that it may be irrational. plus like you said, mine happens the week before not when i'm on my period. and i don't keep track of my "days" becuase i'm lazy like that.
I get really bad cramps and pains on the first day of my periods.. it's like someone's sticking burning needles on my thighs and lower back and it just hurts soooo bad. Excercising helps sometimes, but sometimes the pain is just too paralyzing. Sex helps too. My symptoms are just physical though.. I never get emotionally unstable, or anything like that. My hormones behave fairly well most of the time.
Since I went off the pill, my hormones have leveled off so I'm not as moody but my cramps are way worse, especially on the first day of my period. I'm so glad I'm off the pill. I'll take cramps anyday over the moodiness! My husband and I used to get in the worse fights...for example if I was being bitchy and he asked if it was that time of the month, I would get so pissed off and turn into a major rageaholic. Now if I'm being bitchy, I'm able to laugh it off. We haven't gotten in that many fights since I went off the pill. As for the cramps, I just use a heating pad, smoke a joint, drink some wine, sit in a hot tub, ya know things that make the pain bearable. I still get migraines sometimes but they used to be way worse, so bad that I got medicine for them. They aren't as bad since I went off the pill...oh yeah and eat spinach (make sure you get enough iron). Exercise is probably the best solution for cramps, moodiness, and migraines. Yoga is great but there are some poses that menstruating womyn are not supposed to do.
the pill helped a lot for me. however, i have friends that use heating pads to relieve cramps. women's tylenol is also a wonderful friend.
yeah i get irritable for a couple of days before, just kind of snappy and yeah, impatient, especially when people are being deliberatley slow. and cramps are a bitch, but cuddling into bed with a hot water bottle helps. Also massage can be good, especially for lower back crampage. Our flat has a plastic octopus that you can massage with, so a bit of 'pussy time' from your flatmate helps lighten the mood. and if all else fails there's my grandma's recipie - gin and hot water.
I never got the whole PMS thing until the last few months. I'm still not too out of whack during my period but I do get upset/annoyed so much easier. I know this probably isn't a good idea health wise, but I sit in a hot bath to relieve the cramps...as hot of water as possible. It's really the only thing that has ever helped me. I thought exercising during your period was a bad thing?? I always heard that it would cause more cramps and heavy bleeding. So through my entire life,I have been avoiding planned exercise and major activities during my period. Wow,I can't believe I've been misinformed for all these years
I tend to smoke some dope, as I am suffering from cramps, and a slight nausea the first day, and other then the paracetamol that I used to take against the pain, pot also helps agains the nausea and the feeling of being so cramped . I sometimes really feel like crying the days before, and I tend to get headaches, no migrane though. But I don't do anything for that. And I get the chokolate munchies!!!
I always get horrible cramps the first 2 or three days of my period, and I can never get rid of them! I've tried Midol, Advil, Pamprin....So when I get them, I usually just laze around on the couch and listen to music, and sometimes I put on a one of those therma-care hot patches.. they work pretty well. I hate going to school when I've got my period...It sucks.. *mwahs* kelly
i've said it before in these forums, and i'll say it again... a joint in a hot tub does wonders. especially if you add a couple chemomile tea bags to the water... ahhhhh! other than that, i like chocolate in all forms, and a glass of merlot. excersize helps with cramps, though since going on the pill i haven't had bad cramps.
I have really bad cramps, and since I'm kind of moody/ mildly bipolar all the time anyway, if I have mood swings I don't notice. No amount of painkillers can help with my cramps, so normally I just curl up in the fetal position and cry. About once a year it's bad enough to keep me home from school because when I try to walk sometimes there's sharp pains. I can't take baths per doctor's order due to pretty bad UTIs and bladder infections that could be spurred by them, so the most I do is rig myself up under the faucet and let warm water run over my tummy. It sometimes helps a bit.
A heating pad or "rice sock" (A sock or sew pouch filled with rice or cherry pits which you warm in the micro) on your belly can help the cramps. I also find that taking Aleve BEFORE the cramps get bad is best. Aleve (Naproxen Sodium, the generic is fine.) can last up to 12 hours , instead of 3-4 for Ibuprofen (advil, motrin) I get my worst cramps in the really early morning, so bad, that about 4-5 times a year I wake up moaning. If I take the Aleve BEFORE I go to bed, it is still working when I wake up, and the pain is MUCH better. Make sure you get enough fluids (it will help with the irritablity and depression) and stay away from caffiene, if you can. Or just have a cup of coffee, if you get headaches without it. I can't go near chocolate when I have my period, it is one of my biggest migraine triggers, for 10 days, before during and after my period, I can't eat my favorite food. It isn't worth the headache. But it doesn''t bother everyone.
I get horrible during that time of month. Absolutely horrible. I'm moody as it is, and when PMS hits, whoa, watch out. Luckily my husband take it in stride and finds humor in it. But a week before my period starts, my appetite increases so I feel like a pig. Then I bloat up, I get constipated, I get migranes, my hair looks oily, I cry, I throw tantrums, and nothing I put on my body is acceptable. I have really bad cramps the first two days, so bad that I swear it feels like my uterus is going to fall out. My periods seemed to get worse after I had my kids, especially after I had my twins. Before, even though I always had the whole PMS deal, they weren't as painful. But now the cramps are more intense, and I bleed like heck the first two days and then for the next three days, there's hardly anything. Oh well. I don't really do much of anything to relieve any of those symptoms, I just ride it out. I've pretty much accepted how I am once a month. Occasionally I'll take an ibuprofen for my migranes, but other than that, I don't do much else.
I have the contraceptive implant which has stopped my periods for a year now, so yeh I deal with them by not having them. Whoop
