Do you identify with a particular religion or philosophy? I would suggest looking at it from this angle. Often meditation practices are very similar in essence, however, the flavours a deeply influenced by the vehicle through which they are transmitted. Taken Tibetan and Zen Buddhism, although both teach meditation and although both confer Buddhist Enlightenment through a successive lineage from Buddha Sakyamuni himself, but the experience of each will be quite different, even if you just do a simple mediation focusing on the breath because of the spirit of the lineages. Maybe it's like beer is beer, but Heineken isn't Fosters. Teenagers might not care if they just want to get drunk, which is all well and good, but after a while it does start to matter. You notice that being drunk on whiskey isn't the same as being drunk on tequila. The initial substance, the way it's fermented and what it's mixed with becomes very important when things get subtle and you have to choose exactly how you want to feel and perceive the world around you, what kind of insights you want to have. If you like Taoism, find a Taoist Internal Alchemist, if you like the Avadhuta Gita find a Nath, Kashmiri Shaivism find a Kula. Go with your true heart, your innate feelings towards life and the tradition that falls in with what you love. It's late and I'm rambling. Maybe I'm being over the top... if so I apologise.
