I was wondering if anyone else found these "christian" comics to be horribly offensive? http://thetruthforyouth.com/standard/main.htm
I agree with Trippin, they are incredibly rediculous...I would be slightly more worried if they were like the PETA comics that try to traumatize kids into a "conversion". for example, there was this one mentioned in that "Stealing Jesus" bok about fundamentalism where some kids are out trick-or-treating and one gets hit by a car. His two friends are distraught, but they have that little sense of joy knowing he is in a better place...until they go to Sunday school. Thier teacher explains that because Billy stopped goignt o church and turned away from the Lord, he is in Hell and you should go to church and believe so YOU DON'T EITHER.... yeah, real great message for young kids
Those were called comics for "youth". Exactly what age group are they talking about? I think this was a failed attempt to reach teenagers by totally misunderstanding the culture and trying to use slang and all that stuff... Usually this is how most teen-targeted Christian publications end up: they dumb it down for a group that doesn't need it to be dumbed down thus making the targeted readers appear less intelligent... The one I read first was the rock music one... Typical that they make the lyrics that he is singing either sound completely stupid and when they do make some sense they are blasphemous or whatever... I was taught by a school that thought all rock music (even the Christian brand) was evil, the only real bible was the KJV, Christians should dress in "nice" clothes allt he time, and just standard stuff like that. I learned a lot from that school. Enough to get a GED score that equalled the top 3% of Traditional high school graduates, with a 10th grade education. I also didn't go into it until I was old enough to decide those issues for myself.
Oh, by the way, my point in all that is I am used to people blaming everything they consider "bad" on rock music and that they think it is deteriorating society... But I think it is all a load of bull.
Jack Chick in Anime Form! Pretty Good.. they have the right idea anyways. I like this one where an EMT is treating a kid hit by a rock during a 'gay battle'. The EMT just interjects some advice (while bandaging the kid up) .. "30 Years ago when I was a homosexual we never even used the term...etc..etc" Awesome!
Moronic literature for morons. People who afraid of nudity, sex and mind-altering chemicals instead of learning about them. Not much has changed from the MEDIEVAL days of Christianity except for the KILLING--which many of them still WISH was going on.
Eraz, you are right about this stuff being Jack Chick gone Anime...churned out junk that is condescending even to the illiterate and unintelligent. I do agree with the conservative positions taken by these pubs, if not the theological direction or style of presentation.
. Those comics are disturbing because they try to take a moderate stance while at the same time espousing a wing nut ideology. That's what makes them original and "horribly offensive" if you will. I'm so glad I was born gay. I might have been tempted to turn toward christianity, without ever witnessing the bigotry and hatred that christians spew. I read that stuff and it makes me sick to my stomach. It's a good thing that God is loving, and not vengeful, because who wouldn't get pissed when people misquote you? And try to put words in your mouth? and use you as an excuse for their bigotry? .
This is a perfect example of a "straw man argument." One tries to convince others to adopt his position (however valid or invalid it, or his understanding of it, may be) by creating an unrealistic, grossly inaccurate, or even an altogether false caricature of the "opposition," which is then, of course, destroyed, discredited, and/or ridiculed. This is supposed to be taken as proof of how much better one's own idea must be. It's like this - X is good because Y is bad. Or, You should vote for P because Q hates America. The sad thing is, it's not offensive as much as it is a poorly conceived, grossly misleading misrepresentation of Christianity. It doesn't really say much at all about what Christianity actually is, but it presents the faith, without provision for counter-argument, as something intellectually dishonest, negative, and, inexplicably, less worthy of examination than its alternatives. Here is a good idea - Love all that is good, especially your fellow humans. Make peace with your enemies. Only through the process of learning to love one another will you know one another, and know your wisdom, and know their cooperation (their help?), and know your humanity. Life is wasted by violence, hatred, fear, and ignorance, but it is blessed beyond expectations when it is lived in peace, love, truth, consciousness, creativity, transcendence, unity, and all that is good. Faith is not an identity, faith is a relationship. Simple, yes? What do you think? Peace and Love
wowwwwwww best thing i have ever seen :X LOLZ ROTFL LMAO HA HA HA seeing things like this make me ask myself, why even bother
i'd like to read the cheesey things they have to say against rock music. I mean, what do they want teens to listen to these days? Hymns? God never talked about secular/rock music in the Bible, and i believe that not all secular music is bad and not all Christian music is good. Good music is good music if it's played well. (Although I dont enjoy listening to music that has offensive lyrics, cause as a singer i like to sing along and the lyrics are a big part of the song for me.) and i just cant get myself to like the sound of country music LOL I'm sure the other topics arent that bad though.
I think they were godamn funny! But not as awesome as the black and white tracts you find on public toilets. Oh, and " A Woman dies, children's cries, I like it love it like the flies" are the best lyrics ever. ROCK!
haha, they're really funny. I think their interpretation of christian people are little angels that never sin... "COME ON, MAN. YOU KNOW I'M CHRISTIAN. I DON'T LOOK AT PORN." it's just plain ridiculous.
If you want to offended read some of the cartoons here. http://www.chick.com/default.asp No it is not a porno site. It is the website of Jack Chic, purveyor of nasty nasty nasty fundy filth.
the one thing i will concede to this guy is that this is the first time i have seen sources for the C-14 and Potassuim-Argon claims... that being said, this guy is a nut-case...i remember seeing his site a long while ago
Thanks for the chick site, i love those things. I didnt know they still made them. Always found them entertaining, even when my parents made me leave them places as a kid.
those comics are absolutley ridiculous. i havent seen that much crap in a while. i love the "when i was a homosexual 30 years ago..." as if its a stage everyone goes through lol
