This is probably my favorite store. Smells of cut wood. Usually has what you need to fix anything. Have you ever been?
hardware stores are fun. i'm not so sure about mom and pop ones having been crowded out by corporate giants though. well any hardware store is better then none. the potential to create things yourself is always inspiring, at least to me.
You mean Home labyrinth. I have to wander the whole fucking warehouse trying to find the shit I need, if they even have it anywhere logical I might find it. And the help there is no help at all. I get to follow them around doing the same damned thing. Home depot here is a POS,
I don't know how many times I've walked into these stores and just started clipping tape measures to my belt and walking out with them. Also garden hose connections. You just like, connect them all and only pay for one piece.
Same here. I have one a couple blocks away. I VERY often end up spending part of my time there helping customers find crap and stuff, basically what the employees are getting paid to do, if you can ever find one. There are plenty of them around, always walking the other way if you look like you need help. Sad whenever I know the store and products better than the employees. but in all fairness I did manage the lumber yard for another home improvement chain store, as well as years of retail management in general. I have also brought to managers attention at least 15 items now that were purchased and the bad part returned for a refund, then just slapped back on the shelf, or simply parts stolen right out of the box!!!!! some of these things have been glaringly obvious even to Stevie Wonder, like the valve that had teflon tape hanging off it, gouges from the pliers use to remove it, and IT WASN'T EVEN THE SAME BRAND AS THE PACKAGE IT WAS IN!!!! I always do crap like that., point out issues and safety/security problems in stores. Some managers appreciate it, some take it as a personal affront to their ability, and in some cases they should. One day after they had remodeled a Rite-Aid I used to work in I noticed how friggin bad the layout was for security reasons. I know the manager and others there from working previously and pointed out some problem areas and he thought I was being ridiculous until I walked to an aisle that sits in a blind spot, pulled out a box of glassware and low and behold, there were about a dozen empty cosmetic packages, empty usb drive packages, etc.etc, in all 28 empty packages in that one spot. Then I walked the store and half filled a hand basket with more empty packages found throughout the store. I guess something can be said for old farts with experience after all must be near my nap time cause I'm rambling on...... Asked my daughter the other day "if I was an ancient civilization, which would I be?" Babble-on of course. she wholeheartedly agreed
Home Desperate when there’s a prediction of six inches or more of snow I can think of at least 3 occasions over the past few years those idiots ran out of what I went there for including Ice-Melt. How the fuck do you run out of Ice-Melt in the middle of January? Hotwater
Really? Our Lowe's are so much better than Home Depot. It's like night and day. Home Depot reminds me of a truckload salvage sale that just got dumped into a warehouse.
I went to a Lowe's to get a fluorescent bulb for a swing arm desk lamp. All kinds of signs up for direction. The only one that made sense to me was "lighting" , so I walked way down there and all they had were lamps. Finally I asked someone where I would find bulbs and it turned out they were in the unmarked isle that was in front of me when I entered the store. I think they make these stores for people that need exercise and not for people that want to come in a store, find their item and leave.
Which one has the cull lumber? That's the one I like better. Carter's used to have better prices...but they're gone from my area now. 84 Lumber is also good with prices, doesn't carry all the doo dads, but better for basic supplies. I used to live near the town of Eighty Four. But no 84 lumber where I am now. No Busy Beaver either.
I like the old mom and pop hardware stores you still find in small towns and villages. You may pay more, but they beat the hell out of those ugly-ass box stores. Plus, you're more likely to deal with people who actually know what they're talking about.
I used to work for a vendor that stocked Lowes and Home Depot.. Following a plan-a-gram ,, I could probably walk thru both stores blindfolded and find whatever I was looking for. I don't like taking other people with me when I do go there because they often feel lost and overwhelmed .. I live near Busy Beaver. I go there more often but I tend to go to supply houses for electrical and plumbing needs. Your not going to get the right parts at lowes or home depot when it comes to certain things.
I used to help develop the plan-o-grams for Sav-On drugs many moons ago. Had a mock store in the main office/warehouse. It was kinda fun, like building a puzzle.
The ceiling fan plan-o-gram would sometimes be off by a few inches, of course that would throw the rest the plan off .. worst part was lighting because I would be looking into these bright lights for hours, then have to drive home in the dark. :dizzy2:
